Piq whether you want them or not, here they are
I know exactly what you are going through as I'm in the same situation. It's hard but Skype helps and we can but hope that somehow, some-way we will get to see them eventually.

I've been fairly happy with myself for setting up my DMP and taking control, but I know it can be easy to stray. I'm already behind with paperwork, despite NewLeaf's efforts to gee me up on my diary, and while we're on the subject, I'm REALLY bad at updating my diary (too busy reading everyone else's). I'm now going to have your quoted words of (Martin's) wisdom ringing in my ears whenever I'm tempted to wander from the path of frugality.
And now, I must get back to closing my month-end (yes, still at work) Will I make it a second-in-a-row midnight finish?
I think it's very hard a couple of months down the line when the initial enthusiasm has died down and you want a take-away and a crate of beer. So many start their diaries running before they can walk [I did it too] and hit a wall hard later. There has to be something to look forward to. I think you'll be fine, things crop up that haven't been budgeted for and sometimes it is necessary to have something pretty that isn't needed. It strikes me that you have plenty of common sense and will keep a balance.

Do this when you need to
I know I do. I cry often after I speak to her - silly mare, should know better at my age but am happy that she is so happy.
Thought you might like this to cheer you up

Hi P,
I will speak from the other side of the scale. I am the daughter that left family and friends in the southern hemisphere and moved to the UK. It was really hard and I brought my young son with me taking him away from grandparents etc. But I had to think of mine and his long term future. Your DD is probably also feeling a bit guilty and may not want to show you.
Never say never - things are very low at the moment but it will be temporary and things always happen for a reason. Skype is a good way to keep in touch and I am sure she will visit.
My mum now lives with me here and my brother has relocated and I only have a couple of remaining family members over there now.

OOh Piq I feel for for you I really do. Especially when you bring up the offspring to be independent etc and then at the moment they are it really doesn't seem right:( My DD2 keeps talking of wanting to go to NZ - no reason just wants to go - half of me says says yes, go, live and the other just crumples. At the moment she it tied here because her love has another 3 years training but I am sure when he is done they will be off and I cant think of it without crying................but the world is a shrinking place Piq, modern technology and all that and I am sure it will all work out for you and the DDBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi
