Hi, could you use a lemon squeezer, you know the plastic ones you can get for about £1 from places like Poundstretcher etc? Our smoothie maker came with a citrus squeezer and we do get a lot more juice from this than we did from the hand presser, but it would do for now, until you can get an electric one, not sure where you could get one from though. Have you tried E-bay?
Your right about home made smoothies, there much better than the overpriced ones you get in the supermarkets, I love making my own. Last one I made was mango, peach and orange, it was delicious, the whole family loved it. They do turn out very thick though, I usually have to put ice cubes in for ds otherwise he wont have them :rolleyes:

I just use my hand blender for everything......simplest smootie I do is aldi frozen strawberries with natural yoghurt or milk of half of each0

Hi Lady S. If you do a search under freezing bananas, singlehouseholder has posted a really good idea that she does. Have a look at that, I do my smoothies in a blender and as Bulchy quite rightly said get a lemon squeezer from poundstreacher or some other cheap shop for about £1.20p savers club

I have a juicer, and make smoothies from the Innocent recipe book - yum.
I use the juicer for hard fruit (e.g. apples - seem to be a regular base juice for many smoothies, and use the blender for everything afterwards - the apple juice, mango, banana etc. Often the recipe will ask for juice of half an orange, so I just use my freestanding lemon squeezer. I don't think the quantities involved would warrant you buying one.
Just my experience - check the recipes - I think it will be fine to do it by hand.

Ah thanks, I have seen some hand ones on ebay, but when I can get out i will pop and get one from a pound shop. To be honest he shouldn't be having that much orange juice as it gives him heart burn, so it will stop him just making his own juice from oranges

Hope this is right place to ask this.
I am planning on trying to eat a bit more healthily, and thinking of making fruit smoothies for my breakfast each day. Now, if I were to make these the night before and store them in the fridge so they are ready for the morning, how much of the health benefit would I lose? I've read that if you don't drink them straight away then the vitamins and goodness start to disappear, is this correct?
In which case thinking about it how good for you are the ones in bottles, or do they have lots of preservatives and added vitamins to keep them healthier?

Vitamins start to lose their strength as soon as you cut into a fruit/vegetable but not significantly so that they lose ALL their goodness.
The only thing I've ever found with making smoothies in advance is that sometimes they kinda separate a bit so be aware of that. Ultimately it's always better to make them fresh though.0 -
I agree, smoothies made in advance go brownish and seperate and do not seem appetising at all.0

I made a smoothie at the weekend for myself & the OH, it had;
Banana
Strawberries
Raspberries
Raspberry Bio yoghurt
Orange juice
Anyway he left half of his and I put the pint glass it was in into the fridge and covered it in clingfilm, and he had the rest the next day & it didn't look at all bad, he drank it all & said it was OK, so that is definitely a recipe that will work, maybe I should stop being so lazy and just get out of bed earlier0 -
I think it might just be acidic fruits which separate - apples/kiwis etc...
I think putting the yoghurt in must help bind it all somehow, there has to be some science behind smoothies (o:0
