Well, we're getting towards the end of our pay month now and although we have a little money left in the account (better than last month's £1.68 or whatever it was) we also have a list of things we could do with having a wodge of money for.

    1) a replacement sofa. Ours was 2nd (or more) hand from a charity shop a few years ago. Tuesday night, Mr BR sat on it and an ominous 'crunch' sound was heard and he now sits lower in it than he did before (and he's not a heavy man)

    2) a new fence. Ours is falling to pieces in various places. I understand that it was put up about 20 years ago and looks like it's never seen creosote in it's life. It's now less of a fence in places and more of a gap.

    3) a bike for Mr BR. The current one is coping, but for how long?

    4) a new door handle. Yep, one of our internal doors now has a handle only on one side as the wood on the other isn't letting us put the old handle back on.

    *sigh*

    5) a new plate (The boy dropped one earlier)

    6) new hob (only two of the 4 burners work)

I'm sure I'll think of more...

I had a list like that. I have to warn you, it petered out at around 2 grand's worth... However some of the things - like Christmas and a replaced window - are now safely behind us, so it can be done.

I haven't even done a price up! It'll take years to save up to get some of t#stuff done I reckon.
We used to have a nice set of crockery, dinner plates, side plates, bowls all matching and six of each. Now we're down to two side plates, 4 diner plates (still got all the bowls though)

Well, today has been a bit of a nightmare really - everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong.
The worst thing, though, was at the start of the day - we'd made a nice long list off all the stuff we needed to but (groceries) only to discover when we went to the hole in the wall that the pay hadn't gone in! It's supposed to be the 24th of every month, but nothing.
We went into the Co-op and apparently, if wages are in over the weekend, then they don;t get processed until the following Monday!
A horrid shock as, of course, we budget from 24th - 24th!

Hi BR:). Have just subscribed and have got as far as page 5. I hadn't realised you were keeping a diary. Nightmare about your wages:mad: if Co-op become's too difficult you could always consider a basic bank account elsewhere - although it would be a real pain in the neck having to change at this stage

That's terrible about the wages - my work does it the other way around so if wages are due on a weekend they go in before. Hope you have enough in to manage for a couple of days.

  • I would have thought that they should be processing wages the Friday before the payday if it's over a weekend. I've never known that to happen before - not that it's any good for you.
Thankfully only another 10 hours till Monday.
