Well, great new re: the weigh in - lost 5lbs!! :T That's all the weight I'd put on over the past couple of weeks Will be updating my siggy shortly.

I'm thinking of us going back to weekly shops and seeing if that works out better. Obviously we're still learning how to budget and things, and still trying to work out the best way to go about stuff, as before we'd go once a week to Asda and spend about £80 - £100 a week. I'm not sure we'd do that now. We do out main big shop at Aldi but then have to go to Asda for the bits we can't get.

Things seem, so far, to be better today between Mr BR & myself so here's hoping a corner has been turned.

Finally sticking my two peneth in here for what its worth.;)

My thoughts are, rightly or wrongly that this is one of those silly arguments, upsets, that starts of innocently enough, and before we know it it has built up into something quite major. Given the stressful situation and the pressure you are both under right now, its easy done. You have cried, he has told you his worries and you have had a hug. I think its time to draw a line under it, its probably one of those situations that you will never whole heartedly agree on, he probably cant even quite work out what on earth he has done wrong and its not worth dragging each other down any longer over it . Start afresh, agree to disagree and remember what you love about each other rather than what is driving you mad. You both need to support each other, maybe in different ways.

On another note fantastic news on the weigh in, well done ! I cant give you much advise ont he shopping front, I am a bit haphazard in that area I'm afraid x

I hope the rest of your weekend goes as well as today for you xxx

    5lbs lost!!! :T:T:T :j:j:j
    Well done that woman. :)

Shopping - at some point last summer we worked out we were spending I think it was £110 - 120 a week on food for the five of us. We decided to get cash out weekly and to try to stay within £100 (£50 each). Apart from Christmas and a week recently when we were away, that's worked. At the end of the week it can be a challenge but not a huge one - plenty of people get along without this much and I must admit there are some treats in there.

As a system it's really helped us, I think because we can see what's left.

ETA - this includes 2 grown-up children and sometimes their partners - but they generally buy their own lunches and often eat out so we aren't completely feeding them.

I keep a spending diary, so we know how much is spent, where and how much is left.
Mr BR's son will be home to stay with us soon for about a month (I think I mentioned this a couple of pages ago) and I'm still worried a) about how we'll fund an extra mouth and b) how this might effect the already slightly rocky dynamic.

    Hello Rose, how are you?

I hadn't realised Mr BR's son is staying as long as a month - put like that I can see why you are thinking serious menu planning. :) Hopefully he will do as mine of that age do and spend quite a lot of his time out and about and eating elsewhere too. :) DS1 has been away for a week - and to think I was surprised the food money lasted better than the previous week! All back to normal now though.

If you get a bit overwhelmed with an extra person around, can you take yourself off for walks with or without OH?

Yeah, I suspect so - I think he's going away for a few days with his g/f somewhere in the middle of the visit as well.
