  • Hello to BR and Everyone else on here. I have just joined the forums on here but I thought I would tag along to your posts as it is all sounding very similar.
I completely feel for all those ladies out there who are dealing with all the budgeting, debt management, food shopping etc etc etc. MP Daddy is VERY challenging at times and is very much like a child 'can I get .... this week?' and it's usually stuff that is a complete no no when on such a tight budget but still manages to make me feel guilty if I say no.
So our story is we have £23,596.24 of unsecured debt and a mortgage of £128,00 and a secured loan with £3579.52 left.
Our unsecured debt includes 6 yes 6 payday loans which were taken our AFTER being in a DMP with CCCS as I too have struggled to stick to budget and instead of just telling the CCCS straight away that was the case I tried to 'get by' and started the (HORRIBLE DON'T EVER DO IT) Payday loan visciuos circle.
As a consequence we have had to change bank accounts AGAIN and have been booted out of CCCS so we are now on our own but we are seeking help elsewhere and I'm hoping we can get back onto a formal DMP as it is LOADS easier than having to manage everything myself.
I have now learned a very hard lesson and I am ready to tackle this properly I am shopping weekly with a list having done a menu plan for dinners beforehand, I have contactd my mobile phone provider and will be saving a whopping £12 per month because I was paying for stuff I didn't need (insurance, extra minutes etc):money:
As for the debts I know it is going to take a long time but here we are after a false start, making a REAL start.

All the best to Everyone and remember you are not alone and you are tackling your debts because you are here!! :T

Yeah, poor Mr BR came in from work on Tuesday having bought a magazine on his way home and my reaction wasn't 'oh, so glad you're home honey' but instead 'oh, so that's bye bye to our no spend day today then' :rotfl: poor thing.

Well today I feel *awful*. I have a cough but due to very little sleep last night and a generally feeling of woolly headedness, I feel worse than I should do for the symptoms I've got. Anyone advise me on a good cough suppressant?
Today, after Mr BR finishes work, we're planning to pop into town and see bout getting his ring returned and the correct size ordered. Hope that goes ok - won't cost anything as far as I know (or if so, they didn't mention it at the time of purchase) also going to get weighed too. Weigh in day is normally a Saturday but we've got something else going on which means we'll probably not get there so we're going tonight to be on the safe side. I'm not holding up much hope of a weight loss though due to how many home-made cupcakes we've eaten over the last week!
The car needs oil (seems to guzzle it down) and we still haven't had a final price for Mr BR's bike which is still in the shop...

So pleased everything went well on the 29th! How lovely that he kept going to look at his ring!

I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well today, though. I don't know what's the best thing for a cough, they can be really tricky to get rid of. I think it depends what sort of cough it is: tickly, expectorant, or what? I hate the tickly ones - they are so hard to resist. You could perhaps ask advice at the chemist because they will know if there's a good remedy...

Good luck with the weigh-in. :) Mine isn't looking too good either after a couple of days of eating out. I'm back on track now though.

Monkeypants Mummy, you have lots on your plate at the moment, have you started a diary so the rest of us can cheer you on? :)

    Thanks Miggy and welcome back!

I have been to the pharmacy this morning and spoke to a rather grumpy woman. I've come back with some pholcodine linctus, I can't decide if it's helping or not. It seems to be a tickly one at the moment but the rest of me is feeling very woolly and weird.

Still, good news today - I've been in email discussion with the complaints dept of Tesco and they've offered me a £5 gift-card as a gesture of goodwill!

Good news and bad news since my last post.

Good news - we went to the jewellers and Mr BR now has a ring that fits! (I feel it might be a bit big, but he tells me not)
Bad news - got weighed and have gained 2lbs this week :( my own fault for baking cup-cakes and then scoffing lots!

Also starting to feel more and more ill - anyone know any good ways to stop coughing? (I'm going to keep asking this, sorry, I'm sure I suffer from 'man-flu')

  • Coughing is just rubbish - and there's unfortunately not a lot can be done about it, they tend to leave it to run its course. I remember having to go to the docs once a couple of years ago because I was coughing so hard I was wetting myself so no dignity or anything. Can't remember what he did for me though, if anything.
Never mind re the gain - hopefully it'll come off as quickly as it went on.

Sorry about the gain - me too - we'll just have to put that behind us and move on. :)

Tickly coughs are awful. I think the DIY honey concoctions (with cider vinegar or lemon juice in boiling water) are of some use but I don't know if anything really cures it except time - which at least doesn't cost anything. ;) If it were a chesty cough (or if it becomes one) I'd suggest sleeping propped up and having some of those decongestant drops you can buy for young children.

I suppose it might help to inhale steam? Or steam plus something like Friar's Balsam?

And before I go, may I say how nice Mr BR looks with his new ring? I know I can't see him and wouldn't recognise him if I could, but I can tell it suits him. :D Something to do with the pleased look on his face. :)

  • Well, I took him to a local spot near to a bridge which, when it's dark, has lots of lights to it looked very pretty. We had a chat (cos of course he had no idea what was coming) and then I told him how I felt about him, and brought the ring box from my pocket and presented him with the ring. He was really over the moon, really liked my choice of ring - but it's too small. :( I suspected it might be but was hoping against hope.
So, Saturday we'll be popping back into the shop to sort out a bigger one (they'll have to order it unless they've had a helpful delivery) so it'll be 2 or 3 weeks before he'll actually be able to wear it.
It's very sweet though cos he keeps going back to the ring box and having another look at "his ring"

Oh, and he said yes! :rotfl:

    :smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea:smileyhea

yay that he said YES, and how romantic taking him somewhere nice like that...:) and mse too ;) :rotfl:

Glad he liked the ring and hope you can get a new one soon :T

edited: just seen later post and he has new ring yay!

Tickly coughs are horrid and i have to constantly suck on a hard boiled sweet or something to stop my mouth drying out! hope you feel better soon xxx

    Thanks folks,
Well today we went to see a play - for free with Mr BR's work! But I think it may have killed me, i feel so much worse now. The coughing is worse and I just feel 'full' and useless.
it's 1.10am and I gave up trying to sleep, came downstairs and did in fact do the 'head over bowl of water' thing - was very pleasant and I did stop coughing while i was doing it but I felt might not be practical on a day to day basis! I had propped myself up in bed but was coughing as much like that as lying down, actually probably not but it didn't help as much as I;d hoped, and I have vicks vapour rub on my chest!
We have honey, but no lemon..must get some really.

Yes, I think Mr BR looks lovely in his ring, and I must add, sexy too . Shame I'm ill :D
