  • Well, here I am again, awake in the middle of the night *sigh* Got up at 1.30am this time (current time 10 to 3). This time though, not money related but leg related. I get uncomfortable, 'restless' legs sometimes and it means I can't settle. Not great when there's someone else in the bed, so I end up getting up for a bit.
I have a 'money chores' list which I have had on my desk 'to do' since monday so i thought I'd post it here as well as a reminder.

    1) Ring Yorkshire Bank and chase the 'closing statement' for the current account
    2) Write to YB (loans) and ask for up to date, detailed statement
    3) Get paperwork for all the credit cards and the loan to see about possible PPI claims
    4) Get a few more pots!
    5) Contact the water board about perhaps paying 12 monthly instead of the current 8 months.

    1) DONE
    2) & 5) Will have to nag Mr BR to do this
    3) Will have to nag *myself* to do this! :rotfl:
    4) Ongoing...

Well, that's a start anyway. problem is, Mr BR doesn't like talking about, or having to do anything with, the DMP/Money/Debt and so I just end up being a nag

  • Do you know what as scary as it might sound it might be best for you to take control over the money situation completely. My dh was the same as yours and we very nearly ended up killing one another over it  in the end i made him ring every single creditor in front of me and get permission to have the companies talk to me instead *sigh* ! I didn't like it much at first but i found i was far better at dealing with it all than he was and although he has the odd moan every now and then about how much pocket money i transfer to his account, he must feel relief at not having to deal with it all. Of course every now and then i make him call the cccs or a creditor just so he remembers we are actually in debt and it hasn't just gone away :D

I also have all of dh's wages go into my account (not joint) i have the tax credits, child benefit & anything else. We did try it with him having it all but he'd blow it all within days!

Oh and i've had restless legs before from some tablets i was on and it was horrible :( kept me up all night! Have you tried some kalms before bed or something similar? xx

Re: no.2 on your list: would he sign a letter you had written?

I hope you're asleep now and catching up a bit after last night. It must be very frustrating to have your legs keep you awake.

  • Well done on your lists, its nice to have everything laid out in front of you, and satisfying to put a big line through them or a big red Done next to them.:D

Have to agree with DFW, it would probably be a very good idea to ask OH to give permission for you to speak / deal with the creditors seen as you are generally dealing with all of this anyway. I have pretty much taken control of everything , but I do make sure I tell Mr Pinot each time someone is paid, negotiated with or the Pinot National Debt has been reduced, just so that he remembers we have a long way to go, but we are getting there :T

Re number 3 on your list. Once I started trawling through paperwork, I found I couldn't stop ! As sad as it sounds, each time I found a statement with PPI, or charges I felt I could try and claim back, it spurred me on to look for more. I was like a mad woman climbing through the loft, trawling through boxes in the garage, anywhere I could think of ,determined that I would find something !! Well in the end I did, lots of it infact !! Try and free yourself up a day, get a nice cuppa and few biccies and get searching !! It will also give you something to focus on rather than worrying about the budgets and the bills.

Sorry to hear about your legs, I think I mentioned before about some tablets I take in the evening, either Quiet Life, or Kalms night time, I'm sure they do help, although I don't have restless legs that keep me awake, just a restless head. :)

Hope your day goes well today xx

  • Thanks folks, I might investigate Kalms, or similar as it can't do any harm, right? And help loads.

Mr BR would, I'm sure, sign letters that I'd written although we'd want to do them on the computer and atm neither of us have a printer that works, so he usually does them at work and prints them off.

  • Mr BR has just given me some good news and some bad news.

The bad news is that a payment came out of the account yesterday (which we knew was coming but couldn't quite remember when) of £16.
The good news is that we're in the black to the tune of £1.90! Mr BR said that this might be the first month in years where he has a bank account in the black on pay day (tomorrow)
