Make sure that your non connecting lappy is on the same network - MSHOME or WORKGROUP or what ever yours is supposed to be set to see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/join-or-create-a-workgroup
Look at one of your other devices to see the working settings.

This would only affect the computer's ability to see/access other computers on the LAN. It would not affect internet connectivity

Sounds to me that the internal wireless card may be faulty? Is there any chance the OP could beg, borrow, or steal! temporarilly a USB wireless dongle to test this possibility?

Of course if still under warranty you may have another option of speaking to the vendor?

I don't see the point of testing with a wireless dongle, as it's alreadyt been established that other devices can connect successfully with internet access, and we've also established this laptop can get a connection via ethernet.

The wireless is logging onto the router OK and everything suggests it has an internet connection. I reckon it's the firewall or malware blocking it or it's possibly using a 3rd party connection manager, none of which can be confirmed until some logs are posted.

Hi Figment, you could be right. The easiest way for seeing if its the firewall is try with it turned off. However, since it was working fine until recently, you can't eliminate the adapter itself can you? Should the wireless adapter be faulty (and it may indeed be recognisimg a signal but that is all), at some point the OP needs to verify, and as you know trying another component is the traditional way of testing for this.

    Hope that is clearer?

Possibly, but it could be a number of things.

Download HijackThis. Select the option to do a scan and save logfile. When the scan completes, the logfile will be displayed. Copy and Paste the content of the log here

This is the logfile. I hope I am not making my computer vulnerable due to this..! >.<

Have you run a Malwarebytes scan at all ? It may be worthwhile http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

The computer is still under warranty. But, pardon my question, what is a USB wireless dongle..? And how would get it..?
