Thats very helpful, and makes yr problem clearer.

Unlikely, but we should perhaps check your IP settings

Can you go into the command prompt (via programs/ accessories) and type "ipconfig" (without quotes. If should give you the address of yr PC and the router, eg 192.168.0.1 (or something similar) for the router and a similar nambar with the same network, (ie the 1st three groups of numbers the same). Show it here

Whilst in the command prompt also enter "ipconfig /flushdns"

also "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt"
    lastly "netsh winsock reset"

    Then reboot.

These clears any previous settings and starts afresh.

Unlikley but it may be useful just to check there isn't a static address et up on yr system - I'll post that later depending on how you get on.

I wasn't able to carry out these commands as it apparently required an administrator to do them.

"netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" & "netsh winsock reset"
  • list them all, sorry

Try Figments response, should have thought of that myself. Your IP (IP4) addresses look fine

    I thought I'd covered that

You can check by looking at the icon against the network in the Network and Sharing Center. Public = Park Bench, Home = House.) If it's set to public it could be restricting your access.

Right click on command prompt and run as administrator.

These IP addresses are internal and of no use to anyone other than you.

It appears that "ipconfig /flushdns" seems to have cured the problem!!!!! :D:D The laptop is flying along.

Is it worth as a precaution to carry out the other commands you suggested as an administrator?

As it's now working there's no need to do any more.
