Strong signal but no internet connection!

This is really doing my head in!!
Despite all my wireless "things" (phones, iPods Mac Books etc) all being able to connect wirelessly to my network and access the internet my Windows 7 laptop won't. The W7 laptop shows a good to excellent signal and 5 bars are being shown but there is no connection.
Not being technically minded in this area i just can't understand what the problem is and what to do to rectify it. So if there is anyone who can shed some light onto this and suggest a positive solution I'd be very grateful.

The router maybe on but is a ADSL signal coming through?
Which router do you have? Go to the settings page if you know what it is and check if you have a download/upload speed coming through.
My phone line is down and I'm in London so don't be surprised if there's an issue at your exchange.0 -
Clearly if everything else you mentioned is working, it is unlikely to be a router/line problem - must be something to do with your w7 lappie.
When you goto the network sharing centre (control panel) what does it show?
Starting with the obvious, I assume the wireless switch is on? (either a F key or a physical switch side or front).
Assuming that, you have (or should have) an icon on the right hand side of the task bar - I can only describe it as an orange light - when you click on this there should be an option saying networks available, then clicking on that it shold show you which networks there are, when you click on yours you get the option to "connect" and then the box to enter your wireless key. Does any of this make sense?
There are other things, but lets start at the beginning......0 -

What's confusing me is that all the other wireless things in the house are all working fine save for this W7 laptop so I would think that any signals that are supposed to be coming through are.
I'm currently typing this on a different wireless laptop to the W7 one and there is a great internet connection and download speed.0 -

Everything you cite above is up and running and there is an active connection but no internet access.0 -
can you plug your problem lappy into the hub to see if you get internet thru the wire?
Make sure the WiFi is turned on - my dell lappy attempts to connect to home wifi even if the switch is off
is your wireless protocol set to DHCP? (network connections - right click wireless - propereties - select internet protocol 4 - properties - seletct obtainip address automatically - ok)0 -

Okay so in the diagram on the network sharing centre show, is the PC connected to the router?
So what happens when you click on the taskbar icon? Does it show yr network, or nothing?0 -

The network sharing centre is shown an uninterrupted connection between the laptop and the internet.

When I click the task bar my network is shown as Connected.0 -

Under Network Connection Details "DHCP Enabled" is showing as 'Yes' All other items are checked.0 -
what address do you have from the router?
network sharing center - click wifi - details - mine is 192.168.1.1670 -
The "good to excellent signal strength" is the connection between the laptop and the router. Something is preventing the next step (the connection from router to internet).
Put the cursor over the wireless icon in the system tray, it should tell you the name of the network it's connected to. Check that it's actually connecting to your network (not a neighbours). It will also say either 'Internet Access' or 'No Internet Access'
When you initially set up the connection, you would have been asked what type of network it was (Public / Home etc). Which option did you select? (You can check by looking at the icon against the network in the Network and Sharing Center. Public = Park Bench, Home = House.) If it's set to public it could be restricting your access.
Whilst in the Network and Sharing Center, you should see an icon representing the wireless network. You could try right clicking on this and selecting Disable. Wait 5 seconds then right click again and select Enable. There's also a Repair option you can try.
To check whether the firewall is blocking your internet connection, try disabling the firewall temporarily (or look in the list of blocked items to see if your browser is listed)How do I add a signature?0
