It appears that "ipconfig /flushdns" seems to have cured the problem!!!!! :D:D The laptop is flying along.

Is it worth as a precaution to carry out the other commands you suggested as an administrator?

In a word I wouldn't worry - just remember the various suggestions as they be be helpful next time!!

    Have a good day.

As it's now working there's no need to do any more.

I think I spoke too soon. the period of increased connectivity has now reverted back to its previous old ways. :(

It was great whilst it lasted :)

Many thanks but the previous problem has come back. Should I try the other commands that required admin permission?

Right click on command prompt and run as administrator.

All I get when I right click on the flashing prompt is Mark, Past,e Select All, Scroll, Find.

I assume this is in the Window c:\\Windows\system32\cmd.exe ?

Sorry my typing!! I meant lappie, the win 7 one!

When you enter the command prompt via programs/accessories you right clcik on it and the run as administrator - you should then get a black pop-up screen 1st two lines identify the win 7 version, the 3rd line should say:

    c:\users\username>

followed by a blinking curser to which you enter yr commands

Now I've got you :) I was just typing in CMD in the search field and up popped the black box thing.

    I'll report back

Running as administrator allowed me to enter the other commands which has appeared to have allowed better internet connectivity and speed. Hope it won't be short lived.

Many thanks for your help and to the others who kindly contributed. The laptop was inexorably moving towards the wheelie bin!! :D
