My girls have 3 sets of grandparents. My in-laws are referred to as Grandma and Grandad, my mum and her partner are Nanna and Poppa and my Dad and his partner are Grandad (his name) and Nanna (her name). they also have a great grandmother who is called Nanna Puff ( a name she gave herself from when she used to smoke) which caused a funny phonecall to her today.
My mum was going to ring to speak to the girls so I said to my eldest if the phone rings you can answer it as it will be Nanna to speak to you.
I asked dd later if Nanna had rung she said "Yes but I forgot to answer, so I rang her back." DD2 piped up "She rang Nanna Puff first" because in our phone my mum is stored under Mum and Nan is Nanna Puff but DD1 didn't realise this and rang Nanna Puff first before getting my mum's number and ringing her!

I think it's very sad that this is even an issue! Many children don't have grandparents far less great-grandparents and that is the most important thing.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

My children have a range of Nanny, Nanna, great-nanna and Gran (oh, and nanny with the poorly leg, which my youngest finds bizarre because she no longer has a poorly leg, so he has decided to call her Nanna_surname).
Some of those grandparents get called a variety of names by their variety of grandchildren, and the child's own mother or father might have a say.
I have no idea where all the different names came from really. My eldest was the first of the generation, so he probably chose them.
It never occurred to me that any of these grandparents would have an opinion on what they wanted to be called, and if they had I'm not sure whether we would have taken any notice!
Saint Chris I hope you have been reassured by how many people have said that children aren't confused in the slightest by having more than one nanna or nannie or whatever. They cope fine with the woman they call nanny-sue being called mum by me and just Sue by my husband, and with great grandparents being called Gran by us, etc. etc.52% tight0 -
My eldest has a 'little nana" (my mum) a "big nana" (my gran) - she has 2 other nans one who is called their first name after "nonna" the other her surname - the 3 other great grans have their first name after "nonna"
Never gets confusing - you grandchildren will call you what they want, not what you tell them
My children call my dad 'gan gan' instead of granddad!0 -

.
I don't agree with that. If I had grand children I certainly wouldn't have wanted them to call me "Nanny" - that's for goats!0 -
A situation I know of where both granddads are called Andrew. One's called Granddad the other one's called Andy Granddad.0

my ds and dd have the 2 nans, 1 step nan, 2 great nans and 1 step great nan, we call them all nan/nanny when we're with them, when we're not with them they are called nanny x (whatever theirs names are), apart from my nan who insists on being called nanny no car as thats what I used to call her mum and she feels that shes earnt the title now!0

I was asked what I'd like to be called
and opted for Gran as I felt nan was too goat-like!
I am also Auntie-Gran to my son-in-law's nieces and nephews

A friend of mine who is named Andy, has just become a Grandfather for the first time. We call him Grandy, and we are very much hoping it sticks
