I think my MIL feels that Nanny is too council estate really. They say Gran and Aunt in their family whereas we say Nanny and Auntie.
Looking back, I think both grandmothers were called Nanna to begin with but my eldest changed it to Nanny. He now calls them both Nan, while my youngest calls them both Nanny. My brothers children call my mum Grandma.
It honestly never occurred to me that anyone would care what their grandchildren called them, in the same way that it doesn't bother me when my own children drop the 'ee' from mummy and start to call me mum. Eldest has recently started to call me Mother.52% tight0 -

Also causes problems at the other end of the scale. In a gathering of fairly posh Mums and kids, I said to mine "We'll have to go now, Nanny will be expecting us home" and one Mum piped up "Oh, which agency did you get your nanny from? I'm thinking of getting rid of the girl we've got at the moment".
Her face was a picture when I told her that Nanny came with my husband!
I still don't know whether she realised I was talking about his mother or whether she had visions of the elderly family retainer.0 -
