Mineral makeup - any good?

hi amyb!
sorry to hear that you are having problems, but i think that from my own experience and speaking with other people, this is normal to begin with - it is all about trying to find the right product that works for you. the minerals are sometimes available in tester pots and they are usually very competitively priced so it makes it easier to find the right one without blowing the budget.
from my experience, the tools you use to apply is key....the brush has to be able to pick up the minerals and allow you to buff the product into the skin - this allows the minerals to warm up and then layers can be applied without it becoming cakey.
then, try to get a formulation that works for you - colour is usually forgiving so you do not have to find your exact skin tone, but try a few to find the one that you feel is most natural.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Hi all!
I know there have been a lot of mineral make-up discussions on here and I am always finding new mineral make-up brands and would love to share and swap reviews on them.
I was thinking we could have reviews on everything from primers, brushes, pressed and loose powder, liquid formulations...everything!
At the moment, I am using Lily Lolo a lot after finding I could not really find a good colour match with BE...my favourite primer is an Austrailian one, Earth Essences...so come on! Add yours too!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Hello
I recently bought the No 7 mineral makeup with the £5 boots voucher. They all looked too dark for me but the assistant found one round the back called new ivory. The colour is perfect but I don't think I have the technique right yet as I'm getting very oily after a short amount of time and it looks a little caked. Thought I'd try this first before I splash out on BE.
Hope that helps.0 -
Stroumph, I don't know if this is anything to do with it, but you do need to make sure your moisturiser is well "dried in" before you apply mineral foundation.

Nice to hear from you - oh wise one!
Boots - are they pure minerals? Oily? - should be opposite if anything I would've thought. Sounds like moisturiser, as can't see why it would be oily. And you only need to use a tiny bit - especially if it is pure.Genie

Guess who I will recommend...........
Elemental Beauty for all of it. You'll not get me to switch - my skin is the best its been since I was a new born babe - ok slight exaggeration, but it is much better and the best it will be at my age!
I prefer EB's pink brush rather the the kabuki brushes.Genie

Hi ladies, I've been reading this thread with interest!
I started on minerals about 4 years ago, started with Jane Iredale. It's an expensive range. They do a loose powder but also they do a pressed. They have loads of colours but none of them matched me. I also get really shiny with this brand.
After my experience with JI, I tried loads of different ones. Pure Luxe, J Lynne, Melange etc etc.
I was very pleased when Lily Lolo was launched - I'd been using all the American ones which were all ok but it was getting expensive buying them all. So it was nice to find a British one.
Found a really great colour match with Lily Lolo, but it made me itch like mad.
So I went back across the Pond (not literally) and tried Alima. Couldn't get a good colour match with Alima (and they have loads of different shades!).
Then I tried Cory Cosmetics. Found a very good colour match, and good coverage too. But this is another brand that makes my face shiny pretty soon after I apply it.
The perfect mineral foundation is out there - I just haven't found it yet!
After reading this thread I've ordered a couple of samples from EB so I'll see how I get on with those.
Just thought I'd chime in with my own experience of mineral foundations....And if anyone knows of any PRESSED mineral foundations, like the Jane Iredale ones, that give good coverage and dont make you shine, please let me know!0 -

Oh - you'll love the packaging too! You feel like its your birthday when you receive it! I can't see how pressed would work with this product, but hey, I'm willing to find out!Genie

Hmmmm, Im still using a mix of many.
However EB healing foundation is the Bees Knees for my very sensitive rosy face.
I love Meow range of bronzers
I stick with BE mineral veil to finish
Im using ELF mineral eye shadow as eyeliner
Brushes - ELF kabuki is very good - second to my EB one
Concealer brush - prefer the EB one over the BE one
But still go back to my BE flawless finish brushes for everything from foundation to finishing0 -

I went to EB's website yet again yesterday after seeing your post and only just managed to hold myself back, I keep doing that - the only thing you can tell me is that my existing stuff is too old to use... ooh, shut up!
I don't think my Boots stocks own-brand MMU but it's a small branch.
Pressed MMU has stuff in to make it clump, to put it crudely. It won't be "pure", but it suits some people and it is less fly-away to apply. Talking of JI, their loose powder is lighter that any of the other brands I've got - I have nearly a full pot of it, too pale, bought it cos it was a bargain, Martin would have a fit.
OFF TOPIC:
Jeannie, I haven't had a fag for nearly 3 months :T Been "smoking" electronic ones instead of Golden Virginia. Skin's not much different but it's early days and of course I'm old. Someone in my e-cig group told me there's a thread here so I posted a link to our group in it but didn't seem to get much response, I'm surprised and disappointed. Fifty years an incorrigible smoker and e-cigs have done it for me!
