From what others have posted here, I (as a complete newbie to minerals) am drawn towards Elemental Beauty. I hope one of the experienced users can tell me what shades I should order.

I'm 30, with very fair pink-toned skin which has a tendency towards redness and shine. I also suffer from mild to moderate acne, mainly around my mouth and chin, though my skin's not too bad at the moment. I also have always had dark circles under my eyes, and use a brightening concealer there.

What would you suggest I order in the way of:

    1) foundation (am thinking the Healing one in English Rose is probably the way to go, but as I'll start by ordering samples, I may try Nude as well)
    2) concealer (will I be better with Fairly Light, or Bright Eyes? Bearing in mind I need to conceal blemishes AND dark circles. Plus the green one for redness?)
    3) finishing powder (the matte one, probably, or should I go for the dewy one given my relative youth - will the dewy one control shine anyway? And has anybody found it a problem that they don't come in different shades?)
    4) brushes (a kabuki for the foundation and powder (or do I need separate types of brush?), plus something to put the concealer on with)

Any thoughts on my initial inclinations?

I posted further back in this thread about the large Kabuki available from http://www.ionacosmetics.co.uk which is pure goat hair, has a long handle and is great value at just £6.99 including postage and packing :T. I've been using mine for a while now and find it is brilliant with EB minerals. I used Bare Escentuals for years, but actually find EB is just as good and excellent value for money.

    Right, that's it - I'm going shopping...

(edit)...aaaaaand I've ordered the brush which Unity recommended :) It sounds very good quality, and although it's not as pretty as the EB ones, I would rather spend as little as possible until I know I get on with mineral cosmetics.

Now I just need to buy some actual make-up! I've emailed EB to see whether they think the various products I have in mind will be right for my skin, and what else they might recommend.

By the way, what's the actual definition of a kabuki brush?

Can someone tell me a good supplier of Bare Escentuals, please? Are there any shops that sell it so I can SEE the different colours before I buy them?

    Thanks in advance. xx

The strangest places seem to sell BE. You can buy it from reception at my dentist!

Somebody mentioned a few posts ago that you can get it at Debenhams.

I bought Bare Minerals from their website about a month ago. It was advertised at £29.99 plus postage which made it about £37. I received the kit, and on the invoice it said I had been charged £44.99. I phoned them and they apologised and said they would refund me the £15 difference. A few days later I received my card statement and they had in fact only charged me £37, AND refunded me the £15, so I got my starter pack for £22!

You can buy BE in Debenhams and I also saw it one time at the Virgin Gym at Colliers Wood - dont know if all the beauty franchises at Virgin carry it or not.

If you want to see the colours, always worth watching QVC as they sell BE and have great shows -show you the colours and the techniques of application. You can also buy from them, try for up to 30 days and send back for a full refund if you dont like.

Its also worth ordering a few samples from BE - pennies and each sample will last a couple of weeks

Thanks a lot for this - I got my jar at the weekend and it's already working for me! I'm amazed at how fast my skin heals after using it - it's like waving a magic wand. :j

I bought the larger jar - 60g so it should last for ages.

    Many thanks Genie :T:T:T
I am so glad - I only put it on at night as it is too greasy for the minerals! Wish I could remember where I learnt about allantoin... I know that that particular comfrey ointment is rich in it and EB use it in there healing foundation. Works for me - and glad it works for you!

    I still haven't ordered a new jar.....

The worry is that some of the 'high street' minerals aren't pure - I am not an expert, but I know enough (or little) to be careful. Personally I would avoid the Avon until someone knowledgable enough tells you otherwise!! :D

I don't know the definition of 'kabuki' brush - looks like an old fashioned shaving brush to me. :D

Personally, I found the secret in applying the minerals, to be practice. The more time I had, ie weekends... the more I made a hash of it!! Work days, not a lot of time and just gently dusting over was better and easier too as my skin cleared up. When my skin was bad, I put too much on to cover the spots and horrid things and it wasn't pleasant.. :o

Since being back from hols and a bit tanned, I found the quick dusting with the pink brush and the cinnamon from EB to be great. Tan has faded mega from my face - but a bit more dusting makes me look very healthy still!!
