Royal Mail -a law unto themselves !!!!!

Hi all
I just need to let off some steam :mad::mad::mad:.
Booked some train tickets for DD1 to come home from uni for a few days and as I booked them on my card had to collect them from my local station (or pay £6 delivery!!!). I sent them FIRST CLASS recorded last Thursday and they haven't turned up and there is nothing Royal Mail can do other than apologise that they aren't there 4 delivery days after posting.
I was told I should have sent it Guaranteed delivery (at a cost of over a fiver) if I wanted to it to arrive !!!! When I asked about the 'contract' I had entered into buying first class postage I was told that as a customer who hands money over to Royal Mail I don't have a contract with them as they are exempt from the Sale of Goods Act (unless you send Guaranteed next day - oh which you cannot complain about until 10 days after it should have arrived if it doesn't)
So having had a good moan I am now off to purchase - at almost double the cost - another ticket to get DD home tomorrow

Whoa - a bit harsh! Particularly liking the YOU in bold and underlined
I don't think at any point I have said I expect compensation - what I did expect when posting something first class was for it to have arrived the next day! Not unreasonable I don't think.
I have to say I don't often come on this Board - perhaps I'll stick to the ones I usually use where people are a bit more supportive.0 -
What did you want us to say? They're in the wrong? You should be given a new ticket for free?
It was an honest answer, we don't really beat around the bush much here.0 -

and straight away we see a flaw in your plan.
which of these services are next day?
Royal mail 1st class
Royal Mail Special Delivery Next Day
so one is 10x the price, cheaper no doubt than the train tickets you are buying0 -
Praise, vent and warnings board.
OP is having a vent.
No mention of compensation etc, just a vent about a service that was offered, paid for, but failed.
I agree with the OP that it's pants.
I was sent a letter from my local council's office, 2 streets away. It was sent 1st class & took 7 days to arrive.
Seems these days unless you're willing to pay through the nose for "guaranteed" services, you can expect slow or even non-existent delivery.
I remember the good old days of deliveries twice a day, and post arriving before you left in the mornings (these days my post arrives at about 2pm!)0 -
Guess I was 'venting' as the board title says you can and wondering why, when I buy a service from a company, they are allowed to be exempt from The Sale of Goods Act. Sorry for asking
Feel duly 'told off' and won't be back0 -

well done
now wipe that vasaline off the lens
people werent interested when postal staff were telling you the service would decline
they didnt care as staff levels have been cut by tens of thousands
they didnt see the issue as later start times were introduced
they malign RM,its staff etc for being resistant to change
then when things change they harp back to how things were
oh,BTW 2pm. that would be the end of an 8 hour shift on a 6am start
so wheres the issue?0 -
Sorry - I know I said I wasn't returning but feel compelled to, firstly to thank Mammamoo for understanding the purpose of my post and secondly to reply to custardy, who I feel is attacking me for a problem he has with his former employers!!and straight away we see a flaw in your plan.

I have just taken the following from Royal Mail's website:-
"One of the most popular postal services, First Class mail aims to deliver your letter or packet the next working day, including Saturday.- Normally delivers next working day
- Maximum weight 20kg
- Stamps available in books, sheets or rolls
- Free certificate of posting available"
Secondly, at no point have I attacked the postman/woman - only the service provided by Royal Mail. In fact, my husband's best friend has been a postie for the last 30 years and I am fully aware of the cuts to the service, how much longer his round now is and how unfair and downright ridiculous the rules and regulations he now has to abide by are.
Perhaps if you re-read my original post and see what I was actually complaining about you wouldn't use this thread to 'vent' back at me about something that really isn't my fault !!!!0 -
the mail in my area or my house is better than most off the courier's ,at least they turn up ,some times on time ,some times not on time but its gets here ,
well the courier's,i might need help on that one in my area/house ,
now royal mail and next day do not go together but considering they handle more letters and parcels that the courier's,they a better job for methere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -

Whilst I am not a postman nor do I work for the Royal Mail but custardy is right in what he says.
The RM sacked thousands of people the very same hard working people who ensured that 'normally' you would get your post the next working day.
It does not take a genius to work out that if you have less staff taking on extra work left by the staff that were sacked then they can no longer keep to the same timescales for delivery of your post as they had done before."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0
