Royal Mail -a law unto themselves !!!!!

I think we have a different understanding of "Going off on one."Merely explaining how things are to people who misunderstand is not "going off on one".
Indeed.
What came to my mind was a thread I was looking at a few days ago where Custard had made a massive series of contiguous posts.
It isn't so much the fact that he explains as the sheer number of posts he often makes to do so. :rotfl:There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
And I think as the OP who started this, I would like to bring it all to a close now.
For clarification, I have not said I want compensation, I have not complained about postmen/women, all I was doing was 'venting' - as the thread title invites me to - about a service offered by Royal Mail where they state that their 'aim' is to deliver first class mail by the next working day and I had a letter that I had paid first class postage for, plus a 'premium' - ie an amount on top of the normal delivery price, to receive a signature. In fact if you look at the dictionary you will see that one of the definitions of premium is
"A sum added to an ordinary service or charge" which means I did pay a premium on first class postage
I felt let down by the service received by Royal Mail and as I was scrolling through the site, as I do daily, I was miffed enough to post on a board that I thought was there for that purpose. Obviously another 'silly mistake' made by me;).well it is
you are whining because an item never arried within a tight timescale, and you will need to buy tickets at double the price
1st class isnt a service to use when this is the case
I note you opted not to pay the train company £6 for delivery. so you chose to take a cheaper option that didnt fit your purpose.
Custardy I think you are being deliberately obtuse. There is a difference between 'whining' and venting and as delivery the next day did fit my purpose I fail to see how using it was incorrect. For someone who seems to have such strong feelings against your former employers, you really do stand up for them !!!
As a final thought, I wonder how those who seem happy to accept a below standard service would feel if they went into a restaurant, waited for a couple of hours for the meal they had ordered, and when they complained were told that the kitchens 'aim' is to deliver their meal within an hour of placing the order but if they really wanted to guarantee receiving their meal that evening, they should have paid a premium !!!! I am just completely amazed that so many people seem to be accepting of such appalling customer service unless an over the top charge is paid - and this on a money saving website. :exclamati0 -
No one has said that they accept below par service - what they have pointed out is that due to circumstances you on this occasion have been let down.
In the end is lesson learned really - dont expect a high class service from the RM unless you are willing to pay for it."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

Technically, she did pay for a 'high class service'.
She paid a premium for a first class service.
Sadly, RM did not deliver.
And all the usually suspects were queuing up to blame her for what was really the Royal Mail's failing.
True they cannot be held to account for that failing because they have a 'get out' from normal consumer legislation.
That does not alter the fact that they failed. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Whoa - a bit harsh! Particularly liking the YOU in bold and underlined
I don't think at any point I have said I expect compensation - what I did expect when posting something first class was for it to have arrived the next day! Not unreasonable I don't think.
I have to say I don't often come on this Board - perhaps I'll stick to the ones I usually use where people are a bit more supportive. One day, Custardy will let someone vent about RM without jumping down their throat and blaming them.
OP didn't treat it as A guaranteed next day service, but if paying for first class, I'd expect it to have arrived 5 days later!
hmmm,indeed0 -

do you not trust your Daughter?
otherwise why are you talking of paying for a premiu service?
you paid for first class and requested a siignature on delivery(though no doubt nobody would have been home and whole new saga starts)
its not about accepting. a cheap(and it is) postal service works on one size fits most
go and check the RM performance figures and you will see most 1st class items arrive next day. however if you want a 99+% chance of that, then use a service that performs at that level.0 -

RM offer 2 service for standard mail, 1st and 2nd class, and as one is more expensive than the other and 1st class delivery is expected to be carried out quicker than 2nd class, I would argue that the OP did in fact pay for a premium service by opting for first class.0 -

A sweeping judgement about my daughter I feel :rotfl: She lives in halls at uni and the front desk staff take delivery of post so the signature just means if it goes astray in the office I can prove they took delivery of it. As long as it was delivered in office hours, someone would have been there to receive it. But please do not worry yourself any more about this custardy - I have taken the punishment on the chin and will admit what a silly woman I was to expect a service advertised that did not live up to expectations.:beer:0
