Hi everyone, I've just had a long read of this thread and am really glad I have found this post and some people who are sharing ideas and experiences. Our family (all the women in it anyway) have had lots of extreme tiredness/depression/lethargic symptoms over the past five years. I am now on a low dose of citalopram and have been diagnosed after a long investigation with endometriosis. In my experience the medics did not take account of the physical or mental manifestations of stress which I think is part of having a long term incurable physical condition. They did not advise nutritionally as to how to maximise energy levels whilst your body is busy dealing with pain.
Some of the things I do at the moment most of which are not very MSE or very medical are:
Mixing in spirulina powder with a smoothy. Its gross and expensive but it seems to help stomach issues.
I go for a walk in cold fresh air on good days
put eucalyptus oil in the bath or on my temples (read in Saga magazine that korean scientists found it as effective at pain relief as morphine!?)
We have also tried various tonics like metatone/biostrath/floradix with varying results for each of us.
My sister:s one who has recovered from legionnaires disease the other who has ulcerative colitis both recommend shiatsu for managing their recoveries. Its like acupuncture but with hands not needles, make sure practioner is registered, can be up to £30 an hr.
I have also started doing a couple of yoga and qi qong moves each day if I feel stressed. There were a couple listed on yahoo yesterday and the qi qong one involves lying flat and placing one hand over the other on your belly. Its supposed to re centre your energy. Call it a stretch or a relax if the new age terms put you off!
The NHS has dieticians that I know some of my old clients were referred to if they put on weight or were very lethargic due to meds. Worth an ask at the GP? Good luck everyone I hope I can be supportive in future x

PS; sweetcheeks the supplement you were talking about is floradix I think.

Some really good advice there thanks i have some metatone in the cupboard keep forgetting to take it, ive also found some multi-vit tablets so might help if im vit d deficient.

Our plastic curtain rail has broken in the front room so we cant close the curtains thus i haven't been using my wii as i dont want everyone looking at me so that's something we MUST sort out this week end.As wii is one of the few excersises i dont mind doing.

i'll go out for a walk later (if its not too freezing) and make sure i drink loads of water. Over xmas i had about 3 colds over 5 weeks and got a coldsore infected with impetigo yuk! I feel like im coming down with another cold which is so annoying as i just seem to be getting them all the time as im so run down.
  • I've just been doing some onine research re citalopram and tiredness, and the concensus being that this is a significant side effect of the drug. Got me to thinking.....around the time I was diagnosed with an UAT I was also suffering PND and put on citalopram (been on it aprox 6 years now!), I'm now wondering if the ongoing tiredness is in fact the anti depressant and not my thyroid - or both!!!!

Anyone else on this drug and suffering extreme tiredness?

Hi you can't get it on prescription but most supermarket's have it and it's quite a cheap vitamin compared to some:eek:.
I bought mine at WILKINSON'S but I know not every where has one.
She asked me to take it because being
deficient in vitamin D, she didnt really tell me which syptoms it would help. I find doctors are quite vague, they dont want to say " If you take this, it's going to do this". But I have felt better my hair seems to have stop falling out in big handful's, am in less chronic overall pain and have a bit more energy (At long last) :TGive it a go, I would never have thought it would work but it seems to be. Finger's crossed;)

  • I have endometriosis, just had one operation and now waiting to have another, I've been feeling very tired because of this. I'll watch this thread with interest, I'll try anything to help! If I find anything that works I'll share too

@Alliboy03, I'm so sorry to hear about your experience with your hysterectomy. Can you ask your GP to refer you back to a gynaecologist to discuss what they can do, especially with the hormone levels?

I don't know if you already use it, but the endometriosis society has a good web forum, there's lots of people who can offer advice and support: http://endoboard.yuku.com/directory

About cod liver oil. I can't take it because I am veggie, but a cheap place for vitamins etc seems to be synchro health:
    http://www.syncrohealth.co.uk/omega-oils-supplements/cod-liver-oil-supplements
if you use the code DV50SH at checkout it's half price. free delivery.
got some multivits a couple of weeks ago and CS was excellent&quick.

    or healthspan codes here:

    or try H&B penny sale

alliboy I am so pleased your doctor listened and things seem to be improving for you.

lorelei lou: good luck with your op. let us know on here the night before so we can keep fingers crossed for you

PS: thermacare heat wraps were brilliant when recovering from a laporoscopy, I just put them on the wrong way round so the heated bit was on my belly instead of back. I even wore one under my shirt at work and when I got changed a colleague caught a glimpse and thought it was the funniest thing ever! Having endometriosis is not very glamourous is it ladies!
  • Thanks kittycatface :) I use the thermacare heat wraps too, they were on offer in Morissons recently and I bought 10 packs, I think the cashier thought it was a bit odd! I use those wheat bags you can heat in the microwave too, they're quite good.

Having a bad night, periods due and can't sleep.

If taking vitamin D try to take D3 not D2 apparently this is a more active form. I just take the Holland and barrett one sunvite d3 its really cheap.

I take flaxseed omega 3+6+9 instead of fish oil as i read that some supplements the fish oil is not very pure. Holland and barret again do a good potent flaxseed which is usually in the penny sale when i stock up on it. Good for veggies.

I've been doing some soul searching this last week or so and again back to my issue of stress. Which i know i find difficult to control which in turn makes me worse, but my ill health stresses me out. But i've always been a stress magnet and we do underestimate the effects stress can have.

But its a catch 22 sometimes, so i have made a concerted effort to start my yoga again and aim for 20 mins a day however i'm feeling. I'm on day 4 today and feeling ok, I;m also regulary practising breathing exercises and talking myself through things.

I stopped my b12 for a few days and could feel my anxiety returning and stiff neck, so popped one yesterday and my neck has eased. We do our best :)
