TATT-(Tired all the time) support group

I hope nobody minds me starting this but i was wondering if i started a group journal on here we can chart our progress and see if we're feeling better after a while.

I have an underactive thyroid and am on iron tablets for anaemia but still feel knackered all the time, i have deep circles under my eyes and last night i was asleep by 7.30pm!!!! I know i should eat better, drink more water and less booze, exercise, loose weight etc etc but i feel so tired i just want to sit on the sofa on an evening and i inevitably fall asleep in front of the telly. sad huh? i feel dull and stupid, look ill when i want to look and feel fab and have bags of energy. So does anyone want to join me on a quest to feel better and have more energy??

I'll join you:) I am anaemic too and totally relate to how your feeling, so is dd and she has lots of days like this too, we both have iron tablets from the docs, I only got mine today and dd has had hers for a while as she struggles to take them, they make her feel nauseous but we are going to try and take them together, I spoke to the doc today about diet I'm sure you know what we should be eating such as green leafy foods and red meat but he did say that no matter what I ate I would need the tablets to kick start things, would a higher dose help you I wonder?

I cant comment on the underactive thyroid problem but maybe we can encourage each other to get up off the sofa:D

  • I have had an underactive thyroid for 7 years now (diagnosed) and although much much improved I could still happily sleep for most of my day :o still a huge improvement from the early days when I would cry if I had to even walk up my stairs!!

What meds do you take for it?

I also have an underactive thyroid I am so tired most of the time. It does not help that I also have insomnia and get around 5 hours sleep a night if I am lucky. Roll on summer I tend to feel better when when it gets warmer.

    hello fellow TATTers!

I'm on thyroxine,125 on odd days and 150 on evens and 3 iron tablets a day which i too quite often forget to take.Ive set an alarm on my blackberry to remind myself to take them, dont know why i have to take 3 ive never had to do that before. ive had a lovely bath, nearly fell asleep in it but im feeling quite refreshed now-i'm going to try and stay awake till 9 which is quite an acomplishment for me-ive even brushed my teeth lol (usually fall asleep before i get the chance!)
i'm at work tomorrow (work tues, weds, thurs) but have arranged to get a lift with a colleague i normally get a train and bike it which i find knackerising so im hoping getting a lift will be more relaxing.

Have a good day at work tomorrow, if your still awake to read this ;) I'm sure a lift will help, dd gets the train and walks to college most days and it knackers her too, have you tried fruit, especially grapes when you feel tired during the day, it seems to help me, even for a short while, I'm sure its the sugar but whatever works:D Does anyone have any positive experiences with specific foods to share?

  • Not sure about specific foods, but I do find that if I eat lunch, and it doesnt matter what I have, within 20 mins I'm struggling to keep my eyes open!

I gave up on Thyroxin about 4 years ago now as it just wasnt helping despite the dr telling me my number were back in the 'normal' range and therefore I should be feeling well  I now take Armour Thyroid which has made a huge, life changing difference but unfortunately docs wont prescribe it in this country, not on the NICE approved list so I have to buy mine.

  • Hi, I can relate to this. I feel tired all the time, I am going through the menopause and am constantly tired, I had a blood test at the doctors last week and now I have to go back for another fasting blood test because my sugar level is high, my thyroid is also borderline which it has been before and then it went back to normal.

I work full time in a Jobcentre where I am up and down from my desk all day to take customers to my desk so I get plenty of exercise that way, I am still exhausted every morning, even after a good night's sleep and at the weeknds I can happily sleep through to lunchtime.

I'm glad I'm not the only one as I was starting to feel worried about my constant fatigue. Oh and I suffer from depression too.
  • I wonder if depression goes hand in hand with general exhaustion? I know it can with an underactive thyroid, went on anti d's about the same time I started my thyroid meds, still on them :/ and it definately doesnt help when you have no energy anyway.

Hi, I too have an underactive thyroid, was borderline for about 4 years and it was going up each year but they wouldnt give me thyroxine unless it went over 10, instead i ended up on antidepressants, last year they said the test was normal which was strange after 4 years of it going up, and i couldnt understand why i was still falling asleep through the day (which i have always hated doing) so went back after 6 months and got tested again, and it came back at 22.4 so well over the 10, im slowly building up on thyroxine now till i get to the right level which i know im not yet cos still falling asleep through the day. would love to get back to normal life, but havent the energy to do anything, I dont go out unless im with family, I go days on end without leaving the house. All i want is to feel normal, not be too tired to do anything, oh dear i have whinged and rambled on havent I :o

Its nice to have somewhere to talk to people who know what it feels like, and hopefully we can support each other :)

see we're not alone! Lynn 22.4 is massively high i thought the normal range was 3-4 so cant understand why they said wait till you're on 10......

Anyways slept till 2.33am think i got a bit more sleep then awake again at 5.05 so not too bad. THinking about certain foods-i know i'm a wheataholic, i have toast every morning and usually a sandwich and then sometimes pasta, pizza, pie, noodles so loads of wheat which im sure isn't helping.

    here's what i'm having today;
breakfast:ham on wholemeal toast with butter 2 cups of tea, rice pudding and jam.
lunch: egg mayo sandwich (on wholemeal) kiwi fruit, apple whotzits.2 cups of tea while at work
tea; stirfry with red meat lots of veggies and white rice.

so not toooo bad im sure it can be improved.

Is there a tiredness level which you can put a number to to say how tired you are or have i just made that up??
