    Hi rosiedee,

There's an earlier thread that should help you so I've added your post to it to keep the replies together.

I saw one of these in Currys at the weekend - unbelievably unimpressed with how it was put together! It felt rattly and cheap, with a lid made of horribly cheap-looking plastic, an opening mechanism which reminded me of a 70s record-player lid, and a revolving stirrer inside which looked for all the world like something made by Fisher-Price.

My wife's been after one, so I went to look and see what they were like. Seeing that the one on display seemed to be so rattly and badly put-together, I asked one of the salesmen to show me another (I'd assumed the Actifry was all rattly because it was a display model and people had been messing around with it, trying it out) - he told me that there was nothing wrong with it, they were all like that.

A hundred quid for that? It looks rubbish, feels flimsy - and it doesn't even do proper battered food!

A lot to pay for "real chips", it seems.......

Maybe you're right but I've had mine over a year & it's been used at least once, often several times a week & is going strong.
I agree that it's a lot of money but I use it for more than chips, the roast root vegetables are better than when cooked in the oven. It also makes great roast potatoes which means you can have roast pots without putting the oven on & save energy.
I used to buy oven chips & although it will take a while, I reckon I could eventually get my money back!!
For me it's about more than the cost, it's the quality of the food & the convenience. I LOVE it but each to their own.
  • I love mine :-) had it over a year and use it loads, usually for wedges/chips but have also done stirfries in it too, the recipe book has a few nice recipes in. Today I roasted parsnips in it - yum yum!

  • Thanks for your input. I must admit although I used to be a sucker for gadgets I'm much more sceptical these days. BUT the thought of decent chips without all the fat is enough to make me throw caution to the wind!! Will be saving my pennies now to invest in one.

My daughters bought me on for christmas. I must say it makes the most wonderful chips. I wouldn't want to be without it.

I have to disagree about the build quality cos mine is IMO really sturdy and not at all rattly.I've had it for about a year now and tbh couldnt imagine life without it.Gone are the days of the house stinking of chips and gone is the greasy deep fat fryer that no matter how hard you try you can never properly degrease and with the price of oil these days I reckon my actifry will pay for itself in no time. For those who are doubters why not buy one from Lakeland and with their no quibble no time limit returns policy you can return it an get your money back if you dont like it!

Can I ask how many chips can you make in one go? I'd love one but it would be no good if I had to make them in two batches.
