I got mine last week, was £103 in dixons.. The chips are perfect and you dont feel that guilty after eating them
, for those of you on a diet ( like me ) you dont need to put the oil, just use the spray oil and that will do. I put chicken wings for 30 minutes and they are crispy and nice.. My best gadget ever.

Please someone tell me that I have not been thoroughly BAD and FOOLISH to buy yet another gadget (I have nowhere to put it, kitchen so cluttered and OH will be very CROSS).
Oh dear.
I love mine and I think its very money saving, have you noticed how expensive cooking oil is?
A bottle of oil last ages because you are using such a small amount.
Gas and electric are so expensive and more increases expected,I think I have saved alot by not having to heat the oven up then cook things.
Chicken tastes juicy when cooked in the actifry, great for roast potatoes.0 -
I impulse bought one of these in Costco and then took it back before I could open it because I thought it was just too expensive to justify the cost, but reading about it on here and in various articles in magazines and newspapers I am having a rethink. I use the oven lots for oven chips because of teenagers who are always hungry and who won't eat healthy stuff under any circumstances. Can you cook bought oven chips or wedges in them? Also, stuff like roast potatoes and chicken pieces - don't they all break up with the constant rotating? I would also be really interested in finding out what other stuff people have cooked in it.Jane

I cook oven chips and wedges in mine and you dont need to add any oil.The paddle moves very slowly so the food doesnt break up.
It comes with a recipe book, you can make chilli, meatballs, chicken nuggets, the list is very long.0 -
I just wondered if anyone who has one of these is having any problems. I got mine about 5 months ago, and use it once or twice a week.
The lid keeps popping up on mine when it's cooking. There only seems to be one attachment point in the centre of the lid, and the lid moves about if I wiggle it.
I'm going to contact Tefal, but I just wondered if this was a common problem.
Thanks
Contacted Tefal today. They're going to send a new lid, and if that doesn't help, they'll replace it.0 -
I posted here on page 2 of this thread when I bought my Actifry and it caught fire the second time I used it. Watchdog ran a story on this problem tonight, 3rd November 2008, and said Tefal had admitted it had received 221 reports of this product catching fire. Please check the BBC Watchdog site if you have concerns as I was not happy about this product and had no feedback at the time I returned it to Macro following my complaint that it had caught fire.0

I wanted one but the watchdog report has kinda put me off !!!!
They look fantastic and would save me a fortune on oil !!!
Btw does anyone know if crisp and ry is the same as normal veg oil as my partners mother swears it is not and chips taste crap without it ?? anyone help me out there as normal veg oil is cheaper by 50p a bottle :O0 -

i really would like one of these, would save me putting my deep fat fryer in the garden on a plug extention.:rotfl: oh loves real chips and i hate the smell of the fryer and its a compromise. neighbours must think i am mad hearing it sizzle away.
i use crisp and dry in the fryer and we only use it for chips. i use it because its not as greasy if that helps. but as for taste i dont think there is any difference.
it would also save me a fortune on oil if i bought one. not that we use the fryer much but i would like to try and cook other things in it .
i am so tempted to buy one now ... after reading this .Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!0 -
I've had mine since February & I LOVE it. It's used at least once a week for delicious chips on a Friday night & often another night for wedges, roast veg or spicy chicken.
I saw the Watchdog report & understand why people worry. I don't want to make light of any concerns but any electrical gadget can fail & it's 221 out of 50,000 sold so a very small percentage. The plastic is fire resistant so as long as you don't leave it unattended for ages I think it's reasonably safe. If you can hear it you'd know if the fan wasn't working & could switch it off immediately. It's certainly a lot safer than a chip pan full of oil.
My only criticism is that it's big so can be a problem to store.0
