I have had mine for quite a while now and it is wonderful. The potato chips are really good but the sweet potato chips are fab0

anyone see Watchdog last night?? The Actifry, if the fan fails, will burst into flames. There is no automatic cutout in the event of fan failure.
The independent testing bods recommended a recall of all Actifries. Currently .5% have burst into flames but every one that does is one too many isn't it?0 -
Yes I saw it too.. I won't be getting one - Unless of course I see one in Freecycle!!0

Will keep a close eye on this but have to say that I love my actiftry.0

I only got mine last week but so far I've done chips (well, they obviously had to be the first thing I tried) which were lovely and I made the sweet and sour pork from the recipe in the book, although I did add a red and yellow pepper and some tinned pineapple. It was pretty good - very much an english style sweet and sour, but dead easy to make. Tonight I've cooked frozen roast potatoes and fresh root veg (carrots, swede and parsnips) in it which were really, really good. The veg was in largish chunks and only took about 25 minutes which is less time than they would take in the oven and I had no need to preheat it first. I put the potatoes in first which took a total of about 40 minutes. My DH was working very late and under normal circumstances I doubt I would bother to put the oven on just to cook veg for myself. I also made up a desert by coring two apples and cutting them into wedges which I cooked for about 8 minutes with a little oil, I then added a sliced banana plus some chopped dried apricots and a spoon of light muscavado sugar which I cooked for a further few minutes - scrummy.
I'd read about the Watchdog programme before I bought it but decided to go ahead anyway. I've had a deep-fat fryer catch fire on me in the past when the thermostat failed and the oil ignited, so I'm not overly worried about the small number of failures of the actify. As someone else said, it could happen with any electrical product. I've been wanting one for quite a while but couldn't bring myself to pay over £100.00 - found it last week on Amazon for £99.99

For anyone considering the Actifry, if you live near Freeport (Castleford) I've been told they're on offer for £75 there.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0

I saw one of these in Currys at the weekend - unbelievably unimpressed with how it was put together! It felt rattly and cheap, with a lid made of horribly cheap-looking plastic, an opening mechanism which reminded me of a 70s record-player lid, and a revolving stirrer inside which looked for all the world like something made by Fisher-Price.
My wife's been after one, so I went to look and see what they were like. Seeing that the one on display seemed to be so rattly and badly put-together, I asked one of the salesmen to show me another (I'd assumed the Actifry was all rattly because it was a display model and people had been messing around with it, trying it out) - he told me that there was nothing wrong with it, they were all like that.
A hundred quid for that? It looks rubbish, feels flimsy - and it doesn't even do proper battered food!
A lot to pay for "real chips", it seems.......Oh come on, don't be silly.
It's the internet - it's not real!0 -
I agree totally about the build quality, but I wouldn't be without mine now. I use it far more than I expected, and we love the roast vegetables. I think it's overpriced, but there's nothing else on the market to match it.0

I too agree about the build quality. I do, however, completely disagree with the comment about the revolving blade. If you actually saw it in action, you'd see that it is an incredibly clever bit of engineering. It's designed in such a way that on each revolution a "log jam" of food is created which then causes some of it to fall over the blade and get turned over which means that the food gets cooked evenly on all sides. Also, not all the food is turned/pushed all the time which means that it gets to sit on the hot surface of the pan, again ensuring even cooking. I'm very impressed with the design of it.

Hi All,
I know this isn't really Money Saving Old Style as it's quite an expensive item but didn't know where else to post.
Has anyone tried one of these? I've read loads of reviews on Amazon and it sound too good to be true which normally means it is! Would appreciate any feedback.0
