  • I am also having problems with MBNA they keep phoning me at work, I have asked them twice to take my number off the records, and asked them to put everything in writing for cccs, they claim to have sent me loads of letters, I received one after I wrote to them explaining I couldn't afford the payments and offering a smaller payment, their letter asked me to ring them to discuss this and after a phone call which made me feel about 2cm tall I phoned National Debt Line and spoke to this wonderful man who told me that they were only in it for the commission. this made me feel a lot better so when they phoned the 2nd time at work (with my friend in the background shouting you can have them for harrassment) I told them again and asked for the blokes name. I have received a letter now from credit solutions limited ( i think its written down at work) asking for the whole outstanding payment which I explained I couldn't pay and had sent them a payment for £20.

yes I am writing this at a stupid time in the morning but can't sleep, due to sore throat and bunged up nose

Are you doing a dmp through cccs? If so get on to them, they will be able to help you re the phonecalls in work. When I was getting hassle from hallifax they sent me a pack out with a letter to copy and send to them to try to stop the calls and all loads of info about what exactly counted as harrassment.

Hope you feel better soon, I've got another cold too and it's making me feel rotten, bad ear and cough :(

Hiya, when i used to get phone calls from my creditors my dmp company had already given me a statment to read out to them and told me to talk over the top of the person at the end of the phone then hang up.

    It went as follows
`I am a clint of (name of dmp) my ref no is ????? and their phone number is????????, they are dealing with this account on my behalf, please phone the number given and speak to them thank you goodbye.`

It really worked a few phoned back a couple of times, but soon got fed up of me saying the same thing and talking over the top of them.I havent had a phone call for over 10 months now, they all just contact my dmp company.

  • I used to get phone calls from the very charming (that's sarcasm!) Global Vantedge on behalf of MBNA.

I was about £100 over my credit limit but was making regular payments and the amount was going down, and then suddenly I have these guys ringing me from India and threatening to take my house (I rent!), take my car (I don't drive!), tell my husband (he knows!), tell my boss (data protection?!). One night they rang every half hour and eventually my husband took over and had a row with them for over an hour trying to get them to put their concerns in writing, and stop ringing us.

Unfortunately they eventually started ringing me at work and I ended up paying out £200 I couldn't afford because I couldn't risk my job being jeopardised.

BUT (I'm getting to the point, eventually!) I then rang MBNA themselves, actually crying down the phone, and told them that these guys were harassing me at work and threatening me etc etc. The woman at MBNA was genuinely shocked and horrified, took a whole load of details from me, and then not only was I never called again but got a letter from MBNA apologising and saying they were taking the matter very seriously and looking into it.

So either I got very lucky with staff I had at MBNA or their attitude has seriously changed!
  • I sent a letter to MBNA somewhere around last October when MBNA had been phoning me up to 20 times per day.

I quoted the relevant act re harrassment, etc.

I got a letter full of apologies, etc. I had an IP whom had written permission to speak to my creditors. The letter from MBNA left me alone for 7 days, after which time the phone calls restarted with a vengeance because "you aren't co-operating with us".

I put a formal complaint in to OFT re MBNA who passed me to TSO.

I put a formal comlaint in to TSO who passed me to OFT.

Since then I have done nothing. My IVA is almost completed. MBNA still call, as yesterday. The callers are just as threatening, just as vile, just as belligerent, just as argumentative, just as much a pain in the bum.

What they are doing is illegal and something ought to be done about them. They are using USA tactics here, tactics which are illegal.

  • This is typical of MBNA behaviour. I had it for weeks and weeks-then grew some manly bits and told them to shove off (only in slightly different terminology)
