MBNA what can I say that hundreds of people haven't said already? please try to be strong and report them to Chesters Office of Fair Trading - I have for exactly the same treatment. Believe me they are not worth it - but the support from your friends here is. xxxxx

Thank you! I have written a letter of complaint and was wondering who to send it to other than MBNA, thanks for the suggestion.

And another suggestion - as told by fellow MSE friend- don't answer their security questions. a few delaying tactics of going off to look for your date of birth etc. works.

TBH because MBNA were one of the first co's to agree to my dmp I didn't have a problem talking to them and was happy to go through security because I couldn't see any reason they would be "funny" with me as they had already accepted the reduced payments etc.

I won't make that mistake again.

in debt, the Associates was taken over by citi bank and I think they got a bit less aggressive. My sister used to work for the Associates and they were just as bad to their employees as they were to their customers.
  • I'm glad you're writing to em, I'd send a copy with a covering letter to the financial ombudsman too? MBNA are amongst the worst when it comes to hassling debtors (and it was my CCCS counselor that told me that), and I was advised to just tell them my CCCS ref number and refer em back to CCCS, then hang up!

Dont let the buggas get to you tho, you're doing your best to pay back what you owe so go ahead, have the chocolate bar lol It'll take away the nasty taste left in your mouth from the call xx

Good idea about the financial ombudsman, I wrote the letter with out really thinking who I was going to send it to, I was just so mad it needed to be done iykwim. So all suggestions of relevant people/groups/offices to send it to are welcome.

As for my chocolate splurge, I ended up spending 59p on a small tube of mini eggs, they last me ages because I suck the shell off then let the chocolate melt in my mouth. (no comments please ;) lol)

You dealt with the mnba man so well you should be proud of yourself. Just remember his rudeness wasn't personal he does that goodness how many times a day. I know we all have to make a living but that's one job I just couldn't do. Hugs to you xx

    Nothing left!
  • Bet writing the letter helped you feel better too lol, but probably best not to send that version off to em.... write out a more 'composed' version tomorrow once you've had chance to calm down and chill a little, I know it'd be ace to tell em exactly wat you think of em, but not very helpful?

I wouldn't go into any details of why you have fallen into debt etc, dont give em any more details, just stick with the call, and the appalling behaviour of their member of staff!

Personally, I think MBNA train up a team specifically to do those calls and they bully, threaten and belittle on purpose to try to get more money out of us, but no longer! Every1 who has had similar problems with MBNA should write to the financial ombudsman too. We are MSE'rs! Hear us roar! lol

    Good luck x

ps. I do the same with mini eggs, yum yum lol

lol yeah you are so right, I've already edited it twice and will do it again tomorrow after a nights sleep, I might also post it here for opinions before I send it anywhere.
  • Good idea, ppl may come up with good suggestions of how to phrase things or things to add x

looby I've just noticed your signature its great, now I know why I'm expanding bodily (is that a word?) my head just can't get any bigger!!!

    My debt is GOING DOWN!!!!
  • How times have changed !! I owed 26k back in 1993 and had my lightbulb moment and had no idea what to do. Went to a councillor my work provided who recommended what I guess now is an IVA.

Once these started I never once spoke to any of the creditors, nobody rang me or hassled me and I just paid it all off a little at a time. A few cancelled the interest for a short while but on the whole it soon came back on. I don't know what I would have done (even as a horrible man that you all dislike :p ) if I had to put up with your phone harrasment too.

One question though? What do these debt management companies do that you can't do yourself? What do they charge? I did it all myself sending each creditor a copy of my monthly SOA which listed everything and then the amount the creditors would get. Then on a pro rata basis this was split and paid out. All my creditors got the same info (and the cheque for their amount) and they all saw what the others were getting too. Maybe you can't do this now with data protection and all that, but if anybody wants to do it this way I still have all my templates if anybody wants them (done in Excel spreadsheet). PM me if you are interested.

Good luck to you though, believe me there is light at the end of the tunnel. I was clear by 1999, and things soon move on, I have a credit card again (normal one not adverse ripoff rate) and I even rate tate, a mortgage, car lease etc etc, you soon build up a good score again. One thing I also do on an application though is tell them about my adverse credit. Even though it started 13 years ago and has been discharged for nearly 8 years now. It hasn't seemed to hinder any application and I think it shows you are not trying to hide anything or are indeed embarrased by past events.

    Keep yer chin up
