I am having exactly the same trouble with MBNA, i also refused to give my mobile phone number, but have been badly bullied by them. I now don't answer my phone and all calls go to the answering machine.
Well done you though, i takes courage and guts to stand up to these people when your feeling weak and vulnerable. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0 -
MBNA treated me similarly. Lots of threats, and what I must agree to or else. Could I get a oan, borrow from relatives? Why don't I get a job> Couldn't I sell my house?
Told me as it was an American company, I was bound by American law, and the very least they could acccept was 1.75% per month.
MMmmm, sell the house, making 7 children homeless, along with their mother, and disabled father? To repay the princely sum of £2000?
Lovely company.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
Dear Mrs Looby
We have tried to contact you about the arrears on your account but we have been unable to get in touch with you. (this is a complete lie, the only time they have tried to phone me in the past was the phone call that started off this thread. I have caller display which stores the last 10 phone calls so they haven't phoned when I was out either)
The reason for the call was to discuss your MBNA Credit Card Account. As we are now receiving regular monthly payments, we may be in a position to restructure your outstanding arrears and release you from your obligation to immediately repay those arrears (as required by our standard terms) on condition you make a number of payments specified by us? (does this mean they are going to start demanding more money from me even though they agreed to accept reduced payments just a couple of months ago) If you meet that condition we will clear the remaining arrears and notify the Credit Reference Agency of the revised account status.
The effect of the account restructure is solely to bring your account up to date and will not affect the outstanding balance of the account. This offer is dependent upon (the standard minimum/your existing level of) monthly payments being maintained.
If you want to know more about this process, then please contact us on freephone number 0800 389 9002 where one of our specialists will be able to assist you. If we are unable to restructure your outstanding arrears in a way which would be acceptable to us, then you will continue to be in default and incur late fees and we reserve the right to take further action. (they have already agreed to stop all late fees and charges for 12 months as long as they received the agreed reduced payments every month, which they have via cccs. Can they suddenly just backtrack on this)
Meanwhile, it is extremely important that you maintain (the standard minimum/ you existing lever of) future payments.
What should I do now???
an example of what this letter is trying to say....
imagine someone has a debt of 1000 and they have fallen behind by 3 payments, then were put onto a dmp of 10 per month, they would start paying the 10 p/m but the arrears would not be caught up with. What they are doing is effectively bringing the account up to date so you dont have to pay the outstanding arrears in one go. So instead of saying '£xxxx due immediatley' on your statement, it will start saying '£10 by your payment due date' as has been agreed. It wont affect the amount owing but it will stop any calls about arrears as it will be, to all intents and purposes, an paid-up to date credit card. I think all companies will do this at some point, some immediatley, but from the letter it sounds like MBNA have waited to see how the DMP goes before doing it. I dont think it affects the DMP itself, or how much you pay each month.0 -
I never unstand how people can do that job, basically they must be told all people who cant pay do it because they dont want to, they must have it drilled into them as I really dont believe people are that evil! well scratch that i didnt used to believe.
ive stopped talking to any of them, letter only if i answer the phone as soon as they say who they are, they get sorry letter only goodbye.
