I agree about the cost. I'm going to give both the talex (as long as my existing subscriptions last) and the novus a chance. It's looking as if novus "might" be the one to trust more. If novus aren't that good I also agree I'll get a pgps subscription for my tom tom. It's just I don't need the tom tom every day, and the talex was more convenient to use.
  • Has anyone noticed the subscription page for Talex is down?

Great idea about pgps, must admit, had never heard of it, but did a good old google search and read up on it, and it seems a really good bet - thanks for the info.

I think that might be a good avenue to go down, unless adam blair / novus / a.n.other restores my faith in talex.

    back up again just now
    http://www.talex.co.uk/update_my_talex

I don't like the way he encourages subcription so repeatedly in his adds and emails with no real info of how the database has been updated.
  • I see that the NovusGPS site now has the update link for the Novus Delta activated.

Anyone tried it on their TalexLite ?

It is better to contemplate writing a malicious comment that can make you appear stupid, than to write and confirm it.
  • I meant the subscription Pay page has gone...
Click on the subscribe button & you'll find the NOchex pay site has gone, I smell a rat. I have a TALEX as well as Talex Lite, & the database in the Talex is 6055 so I thought I would get at least the latest database in the unit so other members of the family can use it, so really just by accident I found the page to be missing which was definately there before.
Something is definately not right, I was hoping to get the free one from NOvus last night but that update page isnt active either,
  • Just a thought has anyone contacted TRADING STANDARDS to see what light they can shed on the whole sad affair,

I think once a company has gone bust trading standards have little say in the matter - there are rules about which creditors get paid in what amounts and order or preference but nothing to do with trading standards.

If a new group buy the assets in a sale they are not buying liabilities only stock and trademark names etc.

Where trading standards or advertising authority may get them is if they consistently advertise the "best" "100% accurate" database on the market (and you buy on that basis) and you gather evidence that the database is poor. However considering the work this would involve in getting witness statements and verified data etc it's a long shot.

And anyway they can circumvent the law by saying they "aim" to have the best database etc etc without actually promising it, or have tiny print at the bottom of ads with disclaimers etc.

Blair's promises in his emails look to me to be sailing very close to the wind of illegality if it can be proved that other manufacturers databases are more accurate over a period of time and you would have a good case of getting your subcription money back but only if bought from him, not if bought from the bankrupt old talex, and only with plenty of documentary evidence to back your case.

The USB download for the Lite is active but the Update download is down, they seem to be working on it as on Friday the Delta was marked as not being available yet, "in progress"/ coming shortly.
