I updated My Talex lite following the email received from Adam Blair.
I have a subscription valid till August 2008 and now each time it I switch on it says "Warning, talex subscription expired. Please visit www.talex etc etc to renew"
Here is a copy of the email I sent to Mr Blair, no reply as yet.

Hi Adam,
updated my Talex last night. Used it as usual today and when I switch on, as well as the "Hello talex system active" message it is also telling me my subscription has expired.
My subscription runs till August 27th 2008! Can you explain what is going on? I have tried to contact you today on each of the two phone numbers you list on your website, but with no answer from either.
I have also received emails from a company called Novus Systems Ltd, who say they will be providing free updates for Talex owners.
Would you care to explain please?
You can contact me on ..............
Regards

Keith,
I had the same problem when I tried to update with the new Novus software. It would not connect to COM8 and just showed COM1 and 2 greyed out. I tried various combinations of plugging/unplugging and switch settings on the unit and it eventually came up with a little box saying 'Reboot computer'. I selected 'Delete User Positions' and restarted. When it came up again, there was my COM8 and it updated perfectly. Keep trying :mad:0 -
Must give mine a go at the weekend.
On the previous 8014 update it is now informing me of 'possible mobile camera site' along the western section of the M25 which was not there before.
Previously, all I got was 'camera protection zone ahead', which is still being reported.0 -
Keith,
I also uninstalled the old Talex update software. Don't know if that will help. I have subsequently found that if you launch the Novus software before you plug in the USB cable it will only show COM 1 and 2. If I plug in and then open the Novus update, it correctly shows my port no.0 -
Hi
As I had kept the original Talex download link I went to it on Saturday and it recognised my machine (not a Lite) and let me download. It seemed to take forever, not surprising as I hadn't downloaded anything since early December, but I have yet to try it out as I am not using my car that much at the moment. My sub is valid until at least the summer, possibly longer, still haven't checked paperwork.
Am reluctant to try to update on the Novus site in case it screws everything up.Jackie0 -

According to Novus and other posts, it seems us full talex users will loose the schools notifiction and sos positioning and other features such as compass that were specific to the full system. I also wonder what would happen if i updated via novus and whether i'll be able to go back and update with original talex ? or if original talex will start asking for serial numbers/ loose the remainder of the sunscription ?0 -
Took my lite to work and tried running just the update from a memory stick .(didnt bother to install driver as the work wont let people install stuff). The novus software ran and recognised com1 and com 2 but obviously not the talex as i had not installed or plugged in. This did not happen on my home pc. I now suspect my Pc . A friend has taken the unit home to give it a try on his PC.Thanks for advice, I will refrain a while longer from the heavy boot.0

Kittyhawk,
You say you uninstalled the talex software. Do you mean the driver. If you do how do i uninstall the driver.(what do i look for and where). or did you just uninstall via add or remove in xp as normal. thanks0 -
I also bought my parents the Talex (not lite) a year ago and was concerned that they would loose SOS, Schools, congestion charging zone, compass information and journey information when they downloaded from the Novus web site. So I phoned Novus and explained the situation and I am pleased to say that they will keep all of that database apart from the schools, and the good news for all you Talex lite people you get all the extras on your Talex lite when you download from the Novus web site. What a result! I'm sticking with Novus:T0
