Someone on that Skoda forum is attempting to find out how the device's database works and see if it is possible to create software to upload your own database, for example the Pocket GPS one. Apparently the hardware is generic and many companies make speed camera detectors using the same hardware.0

The hardware may have similar functions but you would been to know how the device reads the data. The person is wasting his/her time. If you think of the data as a book you would need to get every page in order and then every word of each page in the sequence they are expected.
And why bother!!!!0 -
I have rung Novus querying the validity and their usage of the database. They advised me the products are manufactured under licence by GPS location and timing and that an agreement is in place which allows them to use the Talex data. So I can't see there will be any problems.0

The Talex Elite is not be badged by Novus under any agreement. If you do not believe me then I can do no more. You pay your money you takes your chance. And I thought this site was about giving the customer the power not to be ripped off. My advice is simple do not buy now. Leave it a month or so. Novus do not have any support in place or downloads yet so what is the rush.0 -

You see the problem here is that you have come on here with annonymous information, stating you have insider knowledge yet nothing to back it up... A few written articles doesnt prove anything.. As you say you take your chances.. But wouldnt it be better to get the equipment now at a low price then if they dont deliver the updates you can take it back to aldi and get your money back (comes under the heading of "Product NOT as described " according to consumer direct). Rather than not buying and the product being more expensive.
As for the 2 directors of TALEX... didnt One of them leave and set up another speed camera alert company and was charging over £300 for basically a blue LED version of the TALEX ELITE.. ?? Could this be why this wrangle has come up as the ELITE would smack his one out of the water and he would loose a load of money..... And how do we even know that you are not him... That would make sense... Thats why you would have the insider knowledge and why you continually bad mouth TALEX and NOVUS... you could be trying to protect your interests. Its also interesting to notice that his GPS detector has been removed from his site recently and has been replaced with only his laser detector instead... Has he been told to not sell any more units until the wrangle is sorted??? He continually said thet GPS systems were better than laser/radar detectors and now he has totally changed his mind.. Seems like a lot of funny business going on here..
The fact as well you go on about "I thought this site was about giving the customer the power not to be ripped off" yet you have specifically joined just to post in this thread and not ever posted in another... Hardly a big moneysaver helper.
As I have said before I will wait until the 23rd of January to see how the update scenario goes before I start to worry about anything.0 -

Scooter,
You are right in everything you say regarding your consumer rights. I am just passing on information. As they say don't shoot the messenger.0 -
Yes I Will wait and see what happens regarding Database, as if it is going to be up and running for free then we will all be winners!
Very strange about safeandsecure I think you are right about him, he obviously has a grudge! he must have been sacked0 -
So really good news for us all, everyone that bought the GPS Rider can now update for FREE from the Novus web site as Novus said they would. I should think that the Talex and the Talex Lite will be able to update any day now.
Yipee0 -

ScoOter I phoned them and they said the updates will be up and running tomorrow.0
