I was stung by the comments from trickywicky about the vehicle being possibly a ringer if it was listed as untaxed since 2009, and that I should get the police to examine it before sending the V62 off to DVLA. Equally I didn't want to do that

Thing is fella you can't just go around trying to ignore the potentially obvious and the way you continued to ignore certain questions looked very dodgy.

Me not answering certain points is not the same as me ignoring them. If I was doing that I wouldn't have bothered leaving a note on it, posting on this site, talking to to the police or to DVLA - I'd simply have broken into it and gone.

I was in a bit of a quandary TBH as I had no interest in getting the owner of the car, whether it is Harry or someone he's sold it to, in trouble over the road tax. I certainly hope that's not the reason the car was moved yesterday.

I certainly hope it was; we all pay our taxes, why shouldn't this chap?

It is when you're being asked questions like "Have you had the police physically examine it for its VIN number?" and you don't respond. It's quite apparent that you were more concerned with getting your hands on a free car rather than let the authorities look at it. Sure you may of left a note but that doesn't mean much I'm afraid. As I mentioned previously, you can (or could once) only seize a vehicle where you had made proper efforts to locate the owner. You were trying to do it on the sneaky side but you didn't want to admit that you would not get the police to physically look at it to identify if it was legit because by your own admission, you didn't want them sniffing around it.

Rubbish, you already made it clear you thought it was an abandoned vehicle, you just didn't want the police or DVLA taking away your freebie.

I didn't mind giving you some advice all the time I thought you were legitimate but when it became apparent you wanted it all done below board without the authorities looking into it I realised I'd made a mistake.

As for not wanting it moved just because of the tax.. I'm still very dubious about that remark. I suspect you were still planning something and frankly I'm glad its gone.

I don't think making accusations is very appropriate, what the OP has done or not done is perfectly understandable in the circumstances.

It was a very unique set of circumstances and one that unfolded rather than being clear at the outset. If it was then yes I might have done things differently - like just taking the car rather than posting on here telling the world about it:T

Quite weird to think that the Wolf storage boxes I could see inside it were obviously ones I'd sold him and which used to hold my stuff.

So - I think we're all agreed its over with now.
  • I'll be thinking "cheeky bast**d" if I parked my car up for a couple of days/weeks and someone left a note asking if they could have it.

Ha ha - it didn't say that, it said 'if the reason its been here all this time and without road tax is because you want rid of the vehicle then here's my number and we may be able to come to an arrangement that will benefit us both'

    Nothing worth having is free.

You said another Land Rover parked up next to it so you left a note on that too!

Yes I did, thinking that 80 series LCs are so rare in the UK these days 2 parked next to each other was unlikely to be a coincidence. But funnily enough that's exactly what it was - the owner of the newer 1 texted me over the wknd to say he knew nothing about the other 1.
