Abandoned Landrover?
Comments
-
Please, tell the local police about it first, and soon. Far too many Land Rovers being stolen - too easy to steal, too easy to turn into parts, then cash.
If the owner has neglected to tax it and gets a fine, that's their hard luck, but it's at least as likely that they are wondering what happened to their pride and joy. Can't imagine anyone abandoning it if it's legit, that's still worth a substantial amount of money.0 -
best thing to do is borrow 4 trolley jacks and 3 mates
each night move this vehicle a few feet nearer your property
after a few more weeks it will be on your drive you can claim it and nobody would know

I know exactly what you mean.
I see my neighbour has a magnificent Plasma tv in their living room, and I too am beginning to wish it was mine!
Thing is, they haven't been there for the last 2 weeks (and I'm sure they are not coming back next week either).
Anyway, I put a note through their door saying if they don't want their TV, could we have a chat?
Unsurprisingly they haven't responded yet.
If they don't respond within the next 7 days, do you think I could just break in and help myself???
Do you think they'll mind when they get back from their Honeymoon if I go ahead with this?
Gosh thats helpful, and someone thanked you too. dear oh dear0 -
OP apart from cross-posting elsewhere, have you actually bothered to check if it is taxed and/or insured on the relevant public domain sites? The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0

it wouldnt suprise me if it were stolen, many metal/car theifs will leave a vehicle for a few days to a few weeks, to see if theres a tracker to it then when all is clear enough in their mind come and get it and send to docks especially if one of their regular stripper or transporters has been busted recently and have no where to keep it.0

Hi all. Just seen this flurry of responses - helpful, although Premier - I'm definitely not looking to take it if it isn't abandoned.
Am a bit loth to report it to the council, as if it IS abandoned then once it's in their system I won't have a chance of getting their hands on it
As for the police - yes, I can check whether it's reported as stolen. Ditto the askmid site0 -
You can check on DVLA website to see if it has RFL - it may have just dropped onto the floor.
You can check on AskMid to see if it is insured.
What's the reg if you can't be bothered yourself?British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Can you give a bit more detail about the land rover?
What model is it? Defender, discovery, etc?
What colour?
And what rough area are you in?
There are a couple of forums where people post details of stolen land rovers. Landyzone and landywatch.
From what i understand its a normal tactic for thieves, that they steal a car and dump it somewhere local for a few weeks and keep an eye on it, to see if it has a tracker. If it doesn't move, they take it again and strip it etc and sell it or the parts on.0
