Abandoned Landrover?

Fair chance the tax is missing as it'll be sitting on cloned plates as well, so it won't show up stolen.0

Apparently they're worth an absolute fortune in eastern Europe......
I never realised there was such a high demand for them.
Someone could have stolen it, then parked it up, disconnected the battery and left it until any tracker fitted has died.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

From what i understand its a normal tactic for thieves, that they steal a car and dump it somewhere local for a few weeks and keep an eye on it, to see if it has a tracker. If it doesn't move, they take it again and strip it etc and sell it or the parts on.
That sounds quite likely to be whats going on in this case then. Seems odd to me that someone would just dump their own landrover.
Don't get me wrong, I know some people do dump their cars but a LR with the breathing pipe etc? - doubtful isn't it.0 -
Presumably you could stick the registration number into a website to see if it comes back as being a Land Rover (tyre company websites often let you do it). While it's not conclusive it would at least show whether the number plate is from a different vehicle altogether.
Are you anywhere near an airport? If you are then it could simply be that the owners have gone on holiday for a few weeks and have decided to park for free rather than pay airport parking charges - I do this myself. The lack of a tax disc counts against this but it could just have fallen off (I don't think it's been confirmed yet whether it's taxed or not but I may have missed that).0 -
All-thanks again.
Very good idea re putting the reg no into a tyre co website - its not a false no.
Yes I do live near an airport, so someone could have fly-parked it as you say. But its taking a bit of a risk doing that with no tax disc...DVLA could come along and clamp it.
The plot thickens, for last night when I came home there was an identical (but newer) one next to it, which I don't reckon is a coincidence. So I have left a note under the wiper of that one as well.0 -
Which airport? And what models and colours are they?
As I said before, if they are stolen they may have been reported on the Landrover sites that I'm a regular of. Your complete lack of any details about the vehicles and location really isn't helpful in trying to match anything up or even post on those sites to tell people in the area to keep an eye on their Land Rovers.0 -
This is all very suspicious now, IMO you should be thinking about reporting this to the Police.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Hi all
The thread has taken a different direction to the 1 I intended - I certainly didn't mean to give anyone the impression there was a stolen LR at the end of my road - there isn't. I should have guessed LR owners look out for each other!
I have already PMd mundungus re this but there is no trace of it in my sent items so he may not have got it. The vehicle IS a 4x4 but it isn't a LR. The reason I gave the wrong vehicle type, and didn't give the location, was that I was worried about someone else getting the same idea as me and trying to make a grab for it themselves.
Hope this explains.
In the meantime, I hope the note I have left on the second 4x4 bears some fruit.0 -

But they could very easily be stolen vehicles......
It's highly suspicious no matter what make of 4x4 they are.
I know you want to keep this quiet in the hope of claiming a free abandoned vehicle, but lets face facts..... That probably ain't gonna happen.
If your car got nicked, would you hope that someone reported an abandoned <insert your car> at the end of their road? or would you expect them to sit on it in the hope of getting a free car?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
