    As per my previous post,

Still crashes when I post a new thread that contains text that is copied & pasted into the post either from word or another site.

Message states IE closed due to DPE

OK if I post without using copied text

    Only happening on this site.

    IE 9.0

I have spotted a glitch. On the old skin, there is some fixed width code that is making the board wider than the brower. It doesnt matter if firefox is maximised or reduced in size there is a fixed overlap which is causing the the bottom slider to appear. My guess is that it is linked to the header or footer rather than the forum code itself as it was fine before those changes.

Also, since the update, if you press the thanks button (again old skin - havent tested newer ones), the whole page reloads. It never used to do that before. Not a biggy but it must create extra bandwidth and server load.

I'm beginning to realise that the culprit that causes the crash is IE9; that we're crashing when using mse is just incidental. We experience more crashes on this site because there are several links and use of tabs. I tried clicking link on both hotmail and gmail on IE9 and the tabs crashed.

Please can you sent me a private message and let me know which page and which browser. Thanks.

Hopefully resolved. Also i would recommend changing to a newer style. As they have more users we prioritise fixing those first.

Elver man and I are only experiencing the crashes with MSE - there is definately a problem with the site since the update. There also seems to be another bug that prevents MSE Ian from seeing and/or acknowledging our posts reporting the issue.

I totaly agree, its only on MSE and only since the update.
I can post without problems if I do not paste in text or links, but as soon as I copy these and post then a DPE warning closes my web pages.
I too am surprised that MSE Ian hasn't even acknowledged the fact that we have posted these comments.

Please can you ensure you have all the latest updates for IE9 installed. We will run some further tests with IE9.

  • Hi been away for most of Jan and got back to find that MSE website has a new look (very nice!) but is now massively slow to load ... could be that i am on an older version of IE or that because i live in the sticks my download speed is slow but the differential in speed between before Christmas and now is noticeable and significantly reducing my interest in using the forum.

Also have noticed another glitch which often happens (though funnily enough not for this message) - when i click in the quick reply box my cursor does not appear and the only way i can send a message is to click 'post quick reply', get the your message is too short box and then i can get into it. Don't think this was happening before the upgrade and it is a slightly intermittent irritant - but happens more often than not
  • I have had no problems until today.

Then suddenly in "full flight" the forum went haywire.

What seemed to happen was that my mouse has a wheel between the left and right clicker.
This normally can be used to scroll up and down a page of a thread and seemed to turn into a zoom function.
However hard you try, unless you sellotape up the wheel, sooner or later it will be used to scroll and will actually zoom.
Once it had zoomed to "tiny" (less than a quarter of the normal screen view) it proved impossible to expand the display.

I tried the User CP "stretchy" option (and all the others) and "stretchy" expanded the display to the width of the screen but without stretching the display vertically, the result was still unreadable.

At this time the forum also started to open a new tab every time I tried to use the arrow keys (top left) to jump back and forward between display screens.

This posting has been made using "Chrome" but I would prefer to use the "Firefox" I know and love.

    Anyone know what is happening?
    Anyone know the solution?

    John.

Have you tried reseting the zoom?

Open the MSE forums in Firefox and then press "CTRL + 0" (zero).

Or you can reset from the view menu like this.
