Hi all,
Re: forum slowness
My apologies but I'm still not seeing anything out of the ordinary regarding forum speed. We have a monitoring system which tracks forum speed. Testing at very regular intervals and plotting the results. Forum load time over the weekend was on average consistently between 0.5 and 1.5 seconds for logged in users and in the region of 0.5 for non-logged in users.

It is currently the quickest it has been but last night and this morning up until about 9:30am it was consistantly near the 10 second mark.
ETA
I timed the loading of this post and it was 4 seconds from my click on the button to the page being fully loaded.0 -
I am consistantly seeing page load times of between 4 and 10 seconds on the MSE forums and on no other site on the net that I have been using.
I'm sorry I'm unable to replicate this and I've tried at a number of locations. Myself or another of the techinical team will send you a private message and we'll look into your problem.

speed might not be exactly the site fault; it could be IE9's - it has been giving me grief as well
I also noticed my page closing down each time I add a link to a text after clicking on the go advanced button. Never had a problem before the format changed. Now I cannot, for the life in me, add a link whilst previewing a page before posting. It has to be done before hitting the go advanced button.
May be IE9 is a step ahead of mse or that this version of the new look is not compatible with IE9, I wouldn't know for sure; but there have been so many hiccups since the past couple of weeks as far as using this site is concerned. I've no problem surfing or browsing the web.0 -
Hi Meher,
You may be right, Google reveals widespread reports of IE9 crashing and unexpectedly closing browser windows. Please can you ensure you have all the latest updates for IE9 installed. We will run some further tests with IE9.

When clicking the "thanks" button, while accessing forums from my android smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S2, standard browser), it reloads the whole page every single time. It's getting really irritating. It never used to do that before the forum change, but I'm also not convinced it's done it up until this weekend... Any ideas? Have any further changes been made in the last few days that would explain it?
Also, there are constant issues with the text box when on said phone browser: when going to quick reply, advanced, or PM, it adjusts the zoom and location of the screen to "assist" you, but it's always slightly off, so you can't see the full width of the text box (and it doesn't travel with you) and it doesn't like you scrolling the page while still active in the text box (but re selecting the text box auto adjusts it back again). Is this an MSE thing, or a phone/browser/android thing?
On the Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 (standard browser) some of the buttons over lap, so you go to click "submit message" and instead it clicks "next thread". It also crashes the browser a lot, something which doesn't happen anywhere near as frequently on any other site I use regularly. These two glitches (whether resting with MSE or the browser etc) make using MSE on the tablet pc far too frustrating! There may be others out there that only have these kinds of tablet pcs to access the net and don't end up using the site as a result?
Thanks in advance, hope it helps iron out some glitches"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -
not sure if this is the right place to post but everyone can see how many posts they have thanked..... last time we had this, caused a few rows!
this is on the old skin format stretchy with new header.0 -
Fixed. Thank you.

Thank you poly1 for posting the images.
This is the problem with the fixed size I was talking about in post #8. My screen shows as your top photo in both IE and firefox. I have never change the setting, or needed to before.
I actually don't have Firefox loaded onto this computer but I do also have Opera and have just tried the MSE site in that and found it to be appearing the same way as it does in Safari, so for me at least it seems it depends what browser I use as to wether I can actually use the forum easily or not! I tried stretching it in IE but found that it makes the posts so wide that they are then hard to read too!
BTW both Opera and Safari are free to download but you should not really have to change your browser just to view one site.Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death.
