A tablet with an SD slot and a common connection is far easier and versatile

Most of the tablets with higher levels of connectivity are thicker and therefore heavier. The lighter ones such as the Samsung and the iPad are thinner and therefore don't have the same level of connectivity as there is simply no room for it.

I'd rather have the thinner, lighter tablet and carry a small adapter than have the thicker, heaver models. Others may feel differently but it's all about compromise.

thats right you would, however for me its not such a biggie
we are talking small differences in many cases
you should have got the Samsung if dimensions were a big thing for you
even the new (albeit pricey) transformer prime is near Galaxy weight with USB and card reader.though sadly proprietrry charge connection

At the time i bought there were very few decent Android tablets and the apps weren't really geared up to tablets.

I also already had an iPhone so the iPad seemed the more obvious choice.

I also use Handbrake, but if you buy airvideo (£1.99 - although there is a free version which is restricted) it can stream a video file and convert it on the fly. Works perfectly.

Yeah, I use 8 player for that which must have been a similar price. If the iPad had built in DLNA support the additional app wouldn't have been necessary.

I do admire Apples model though. they do just enough to keep the sales eye wateringly high

take a look at the accessories you need to BUY, quite expensive.140,000 apps some free most are not, not silly these Apple people are they. Have a good long look at the opposition before you buy.
I haven't seen any accessories that you need to buy for the iPad - well except a cover or case, but that's something I expect to have to buy for any mobile device (tablet PC, mobile phone, smartphone, laptop, satnav, whatever). It comes with a cable for connecting it to a USB slot, that's all I need.
Why would the apps be free? Why would a company spend thousands developing a piece of software only to give it away free?
There wasn't any opposition when I bought my first iPad. There isn't any now, IMO, the problem is that the 'opposition' doesn't have access to the App Store, and many of the games I want to play are only available on the App Store.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll be seeing DLNA on apple products - they're too busy pushing their proprietary AirPlay standard which hardly any other manufacturers use. :(

    yeah I suppose
I was looking at an Apple TV the other day,but the new WD TV live is a better machine for me
the Apple stuff always seems to have certain features/components missing
Though I would love to see Thunderbolt rolled out on PC!
