I'm looking at treating myself to a tablet too. Everytime I am in the Metro Centre I have a wee play with the ones in Currys but just can't decide which one to get.

Is it really worth paying extra to get a 3g model?

    wouldnt be for me
just hook up to the android handset wifi

I've got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" wifi and really like it. I wanted that size so I can easily stick it in my handbag and cart it around. I think the iPads are gorgeous but too big to move around. I bought my tab at the airport for £230 last July - I would have preferred the 3G model but I can tether from my phone and there are loads of places with free wifi these days. Android is great, I've had an iPod Touch for years but I think on balance I prefer Android.
  • im really liking the ASUS EeePad Transformer Prime Tablet but £499 hmmm
  • Plenty of decent capacitive screen android tablets coming out of china / HK, they have even started to do them with ICS ( android 4 ) though it doesnt support flash yet

expect to pay 100 quid for one from china / HK , at 100 quid its not much of a gamble

of course these are not with 3G , but i guess if you really wanted a 3G contract, you could just get a mifi unit
  • thx matt i know there are plenty of these chinese ones around but i wanna get something descent and local so any probs i can fire it straight back =)

I don't understand why poepl are saying that some e-books won't work on the ipad. I can't think of a format that won't work with a free reader app downloaded and I download a lot of books on a regular basis.

I have several readers on my ipad, one for books, one for comics and one which is a pdf reader.
I either buy the e-book from Amazon, Itunes (a lot are free on both) or I download from various sites like the guttenberg project and then email the file to my ipad email address then open the file with the relevant reader. It then stays there until I delete it. Takes me a few mins to do and I have hundreds of books and magazines to read.

I can honestly say I have never had issues finding apps I want and most for free or 69p at the most. Well you can't even buy a coffee for that!

I do have a laptop and the Ipad will never replace it but for an entertainment tool for reading, games, films, online surfing with easy use its a great gadget.

Probably because they simply don't know about the apps or not that confident about installing the apps. Everyone's knowledge of these devices or apps varies greatly.

  • I have an Acer Iconia, my main reason was that it has a few different ports such as USB and micro USB and it is expandable. The ports are not fully active yet but will become more so with each update. I love this tab, it is easy to use and fairly sturdy too!
