I think you might be expecting too much if you think tablets should be like a laptop/desktop. Most tablets I looked at didn't have USB ports - I think most people can live without them unless they have a special requirement. Can't say I've had to buy any expensive accessories either - I just bought a generic case off amazon.
theres plenty with USB support on Android
admittadly most with mini /micro USB,but its there0 -

So you'd need an adapter to get to a normal USB port - just like the Ipad. Apparently the Ipad does support some USB devices although this support is limited. Its not something I really considered though as I can't think of anything I'd use it for. Obviously others might have other views.
The biggest problem I have with the ipad is the lack of native support for DLNA - now that is a PITA.0 -

well with most its a simple and cheap universal adapter/cable(though there are tablets with full size USB)
I think only the Samsung uses a proprietery adapter
I had looked at the Samsung given its one of the lightest, however the dock connector for USB/SD put me off0 -

I bought this adapter for the iPad - takes USB plus SD cards. At the time it was less than £5.

yup,but as I said its a propietry adapter
I have mini/micro USB cables/adapters all over the house
so I ruled out ipad and any andriod tablet with the same.
Its not an anti ipad thing.
I just try and keep things simple
I can forgive Apple adding Thunderbolt to the ipad, but I think its will be the Ipad 4S0 -

.
I also use Handbrake, but if you buy airvideo (£1.99 - although there is a free version which is restricted) it can stream a video file and convert it on the fly. Works perfectly.0 -
It is but my point was that it does both USB and SD and was relatively cheap.
but thats not the point
you have an adapter,so you need to carry that or have it available to use USB or SD
A tablet with an SD slot and a common connection is far easier and versatile
eg. Say Im taking pictures with the DSLR,I could hook that up to a USB enabled tablet or simply put an SD card right in.
I was really set on the Samsung till I thought about having to use adapters.
pretty much 100% the day I needed that adapter I would have forgotten it,plus the chance of damage with adapters is higher0 -

the Samsungs are nice and light
The transformer is a neat idea,except I already have a laptop & PC's
So I would really use them if i needed a keyboard.
Its really down to you own set up and planned uses0
