all I can gather is that the JT is superior in specs to the YT (don't know what though)
and the JT is gloss whilst the YT is Matte

One of the main differences appears to be in relation to PC (or Xbox 360) resolution via VGA input. The JT model appears to be capable of displaying with a native resolution of 1366 x 768, whereas the maximum resolution of the YT is 1280 x 720 (despite there being an option on the TV to display in 1366 x 768). There IS a fix for YT models I believe, but it appears to be a bit complicated. I must admit I haven't tried it.

I have a YT model and I'm happy to use my Xbox 360 on 1280 x 720, or alternatively via component. I haven't and do not intend to connect my PC to the TV.

Hope that makes sense! If this is all double dutch to you then don't worry - that means it probably won't be an issue for you!

I'd also add that I'm very happy with my YT model.

  • Hi all,

I odered a Panasonic32inch LCD HD readytv with freeview yesterday at 1pm and it was delivered to my door at 8.30am this morning!!! How quick is that?? And I only paid £551!! and that includes delivery!! I got it from a place called Rankhour.com. It seems to have all the things I'm supposed to need ie. HDMI socket, s scart sockets etc etc etc. I'm not very techy but I've read a lot of lcd stuff that says I need these. I think that this is a bargain for a well known make of tv. I haven't seen one for this price!! I've seen the same tv advertised for £999 on other websites!

Just ordered the YT08 via ebuyer - £433.10 shipped.

did I make the right choice?
    I'll be using it for

    Apple TV - via HDMI
360 - Via comp (was gonna go via VGA but apparently it sucks)
    Virgin - Scart
    DVD player - scart

good choice or should I have paid the exta £70 for the JT?
also, can anyone reccomend a good upscaling DVD player as i'm really new to this.

P.S. Thanks for all the help guys, I know I'm asking a lot of questions for a new guy but you're really helping me out.

Well I don't have the JT so I can't make a direct comparison, but I think you'll be more than happy. Not used Apple TV (what's that like btw?) and neither do I have anything connected via HDMI.

I think you may want to see if there is any way to connect your Virgin box through something that can upscale the picture. I say this as Sky through scart on my TV looks awful. I connect instead via a Panasonic DVD recorder that then connects to the TV via Component and the picture is massively improved. Of course if you don't watch a lot through the Virgin box then it may not be worthwhile.

I bought a VGA lead for my 360 last week as I was fed up of switching the component leads. I must admit I am perfectly happy with the picture. It may not be quite as rich in colour - that's what the colour settings are for if you're really fussed but I never like the picture to be too colour rich anyway.

Can't help you with the upscaling DVD player. I'll watch the thread with interest, though to be honest now I have the VGA cable the 360 does as good a job of upscaling DVD's as anything else, albeit that I have a small vertical black bar on the left side of the screen. I can live with that for the money.

The TV Arrived today, it's pretty awesome, bigger than I expected.

Glad I went for the YT, not sure a TV of this size in glossy would have looked good.
quick question, hoping you can help as I can't seem to figure it out
currently setting the 360 up with it, but everytime I hook the VGA up the TV just says "Not Support"

I've hooked it up via copmonent and it works fine, oddly enough the comp will let me go to 1080p
but I can't even get a visual witht he VGA
I've dropped it down to 480p so that the VGA would pick it up, i've tried it at 50hz and 60hz but i'm getting nothing but "Not Support"

This works perfectly on my Dell 2405fpw so unsure what the issue is.

arcsbite, the TV will only support certain resolutions on your 360 via VGA . It works at ?1024 x 720? resolution and the higher ?1280 x 720? resolution but the latter will give you a vertical black border on the left side of the screen. You'll get the Not Support warning if you try at the higher resolution ?1360 x 768?

Edit - since the latest dashboard update the tv supports 1280 x 768 without a black border. Weird! Dunno if it's something I did or the 360

You can alter the resolution settings from the 360 dashboard.

Apologies, I'm not sure if I've quoted the right resolution figures as I'm at work so can't check them (hence the '???'), but you'll get the gist of what I mean, I hope.

Glad you're enjoying the TV. My wife wanted the YT because she thought the shiny finish of the JT wouldn't look right either.

I spotted this today also, looks auite nice

IIRC to display the HD Ready logo and standard and panel must have acomponent and a digital interface (HDMI or DVI) and be able to display a 720 lines in widescreen

Bit of a nightmare with the YT08...

...after a 24 or so I noticed in the bottom left of the screen that the backlight was/had been bleeding and a white corner had appeared.

24 hours after that a lerge chunk of the right side of the screen had bled through.

    I was gutted.
Called ebuyer who sent a courier to take it back, they told me it was covered under manufacturer warranty for a direct replacement.

I got in tonight to find a message from ebuyer, They have discontinued the YT08,so after 5 days of waiting for delivery, 24 hours of use, 48 hours of problems and 3 days of returns they have issued a refund...
...it will clear in 3-5 days.

at which point I can start looking for another TV.
A shame as I really liked the YT08...and now my living room has a gaping hole in it.
