Welcome home Lyn, you should be just about there by now.
I'm glad that Nell is so much better. I understand completely that she feels unsupported and let down by her colleagues. Unfortunately this seems to be normal in some workplaces today, everyone is busy looking after number one.
However, Nell will never know how many lives she has touched by doing all the extra curricular activities. Nothing is ever wasted.
I may have told you on here before about the adult man I met who told me that he never forgot the feeling of having my arm round him when he came to read to me as a child in school. He came from a home that was quite undemonstrative and he said that this was the most physical affection that he ever felt. I only held children close to me so that I could hear them in a busy classroom, (I probably couldn't do that today) and had no idea of the long term affect I had on one small child.
I bet if Nell meets any of her former pupils in the future she will be similarly amazed by the affect she has had on them and the qualities and talents that she will have allowed them to discover. She is a treasure.
Fuddle, can I suggest lavender for your front garden. It doesn't need much looking after, is happy in dry soil and looks and smells gorgeous. It is also one of the easiest plants to propagate, buy one plant and next year you can have a dozen or more. Bees love it. So do I.

Home and 3 cups of tea'd! and boy did I need them the train was APALLING!!! there had been a problem earlier in the day at Bath so rolling stock was out of place further up the line and what turned up for us was two carriages (where there are normally three) not of normal rolling stock type but the little 'bus trains' that do short hops and there were NO luggage racks, the overheads were full when I got on, no seat reservations and it was virtually full, I was lucky to get a seat but it was a funny one with two banks of seats facing each other and no table so no leg room and I spent three and a half hours touching knees with the poor lass opposite me neither of us able to move our legs, with my rucksack on my lap as there was nowhere else (no floor space available) and my suitcase tucked up against my left knee and my knees bent sideways, so very uncomfortable and a huge relief to be able to get off when it finally arrived at my home station. The railways are in a state, the infrastructure is failing (hence the delay at Bath) the rolling stock is broken and often in the wrong place, the carriages are broken, old, dirty and overcrowded and the train guards unhelpful our train didn't have a loo even and ran from the top of the Midlands through to a major town on the south east coast and some people were forced to stand for very long bits of the journey really NOT GOOD ENOUGH! vent over sorry.
Lovely weekend, yesterday s golden sunshine was just what we needed and topped up out batteries. Nothing specific planned for the coming couple of weeks but being back in routine and life as we know it, lovely!!!0 -
Welcome home Lyn, that journey does sound appalling
like you say not good enough and enough to put people off train travel, enjoy that cuppa x
Still reading along every day, nothing exciting to report apart from ordering a pair of prescription sunglasses this morning, I went to my usual opticians in town where the folk are so friendly and fit in with my resolution to support local, independents rather than the big chains. Had a mooch around and picked up spelt and coconut flour in HB as they have their buy one get another for a penny promotion on. Have never baked with c flour before but have a recipe for low carb cheese scones I want to try.
Another fan of lavender here Fuds, perhaps some Mediterranean grass type plants if the spot is windy and sunny? I love rosemary and have three specimens in pots which all flower and look attractive.
Hope our poorlies all feel better today, envy anyone with blue skies and sun, it's cloudy and cold here and have to say the lack of warm, spring weather is getting me down a tadDoesn't help that it's Mum's birthday tomorrow, first one and all that, tough.
Love to all x0 -
Celebrate all the lovely times you spent birthdays with dear old Mumsie Lainey, raise a glass of her favourite tipple, go visit her, take a drive to one of her favourite places and 'be' with her because she'll be there with you. Make it a happy day, share your happiness with mum and stand in the sunlight even if it's raining. It's a 'first' so start new traditions and each year will bring you closer to mum and make you happier that you still celebrate her birthday. You CAN you know! xxx.0

That's a good idea Lyn, I picked out a lovely russet orange "Mum" to take over to her tomorrow morning, then perhaps suggest to Capt S that we go out for afternoon tea which was one of her favourite things to do and let's not forget Baileys over ice, her favourite tipple

All these things petal, and smiles and memories that MAKE you smile and something a tiny bit wicked that mum did? that will make you smile even wider.....then go do it yourself whatever 'it' is, and make her smile too! xxx.
In case you're wondering MY little bit of wicked involves setting off every single noise making toy I can find in the toy department of any large store I'm in..... it's what the girls will do if I'm not there with them and then roar laughing together, Oh yes, wicked is good as long as it's fun and doesn't hurt anyone!!!0 -
:rotfl: I will get my thinking cap on x0

With the same gusto as pushing into the cake queue in Ikea?
Yes, I can see you parping, binging and ding-a-ding-a-dinging! :rotfl:
Thank you for the garden ideas. I'm working on it tonight. I'm pulling out and starting again. Grasses feature heavily. My pond has been veto'd by DH because of too many factors against us but I am going to use a barrel planter we have for a container, line it and have a little contained wildlife pond. That will be a feature then I'll add a rockery with succulents and spread it out with the grasses. DH has a weed membrane at work (I don't know how, I've given up asking. He accumulates stuff that he's offered, just in case. He might have a sleeper I could use too) Lots to keep me busy anyway.
Monna I had thought about lavender against the wall but you won't like my reason why. It's awful. Shall I tell you? Ok. Well I thought if I attract the buzzy bees there then the people waiting for the bus wouldn't sit on me wall. I know. Fuddle!:o0 -
Lainey I always toast my parents on both their birthday and the date we lost them - mum gets a small sherry and dad gets either a g&t or a pint
The first year is all about remembering the good times and starting new traditions in their memory. Will send a big sunny hug from Blackpool down to EA for you & CS tomorrow xx

Fuddle could you have a lavender edge to your front path? Or a bed against your house wall? Thyme is another to consider, along with sea pinks / thrift or santolina, which is another fragrant hardy plant.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
