Lyn what is oatmeal soup? :o I think we can surmise that a jolly good time was had by you yesterday then. :D

Welcome home Scottishminnie. Did you manage to bring fabric (oh or was it Bundt tins) home? Obviously my memory is nothing like our dear Polly's :o

If you muster some positive vibes today can you send me some my way as I have a chest cold with pain on breathing. I'm worried it will turn. A day of calm quilting today and hope that my phone stays quiet.

The allotment where I'm moving to contacted me. I am on the waiting list which consists of just me so hopefully I'll get a plot in the next few years.

DD has taken some plastic containers to sort her Lego so many down. I'm on the bare minimum now. I expect I'll be glassware purchasing next pay day. My concern is that they seem to have plastic lids though.
  • It's a lovely old wartime recipe and is carrots, leeks, onion and turnip sweated down and then you add 1oz of oats/oatmeal and some chicken stock and cook it for 45 minutes then ad in 3/4 pint of hot milk some parsley and seasoning and give it a taste test. Nice in the winter on chilly days!!! got the actual recipe if you want it pet?

Oh Lyn, unusual but sounds right up my street. I'm on to it. I'll look online to save your fingers. I've no leeks but the rest I can do and really what I need today for my lunch I think. Thanks :D
  • It's

    I carrot
    1 leek
    1 onion
1 turnip/slice of swede all chopped up small
a few sprays oil spray/1 oz butter
    1 pint chicken stock
    1 oz porridge oats/oatmeal
    3/4 pint hot milk
    salt
    pepper
    parsley

soften the veg in the spray/butter until the onion is translucent, add the oatmeal and cook for a couple of minutes, add stock, bring to simmer and cook 45 mins. Add hot milk, seasoning and cook a few minutes more. Taste, adjust seasoning and then add chopped parsley before serving it. (I use dried parsley and chuck it in at the adding the stock stage if I don't have fresh).

Cheap, warming, full of nutrients and best yummy! that amount serves 4.
  • Good morning all .
Gentle hug to Lainey , I hope you managed some sleep .
Welcome back to SM hope work goes well .
Oh Floss you've had some proper sunshine . A break makes such a difference at this time of year .
Sounds as though a great day was had by all Lynn . Ruthie sounds to be fit and well which is the most important thing . Wait until both are running round she'll need all her energy then :)
Fuds I'm sending allotment vibes to add to the house selling vibes . I've never heard of a waiting list of one so maybe you'll be lucky earlier than hoped . I'm sure there was a plot - no pun intended - in an ancient episode of Midsomer murders concerning trying to get an allotment but I don't imagine you'll stoop to murder :rotfl::rotfl:Look after you today at least you can spot the warning signs now and slow down . You made me laugh about Polly's memory . In the words of Meatloaf I remember everything apart from what happened a few hours ago or yesterday .
25 minutes of pressing redial early today resulted in Dr's booked solid for 3 weeks . I finally got to speak to another receptionist and dd has an appointment tomorrow morning . It was a case of all suited and booted and nowhere to go . Dd has retired to bed until lunchtime as she was awake all night panicking whether she would get an appointment or not . Severe anxiety and panic attacks are horrible to witness which is why Dr books the next appt during her time with him . We have a list of everything that needs tackling as a result of him not being able to keep everything in check since he last saw her 5 weeks ago . He'll need his yoga mat tomorrow :D
Will discuss the phone appt situation with him . He's adapted so many systems around her difficulties so I'm pretty sure he'll have an answer .
Hope some of you get some sun . Dull and damp , rinse and repeat here .
    polly x

There but for fortune go you and I.

and it's in my pan Lyn. I used celery instead of leek but it should be ok. Also, in using the oats it got me thinking about bulking out and there's now red lentils in the SC with the mince like I used to. ;)
  • Celery is fine pet, way back when it would have been made with whatever you actually had and many variations of ingredients must have been used. It might actually be NICER with celery!!!

I can't believe how thick and creamy the soup goes and I used semi skimmed milk. It's really nice Lyn, thank you. :)

Here's my quilt top. I'm going to spend the next few hours absorbed in it.
