  • What a cold, damp and thoroughly dreary day it's been it's not particularly cold down here but the dampness in the air which is sometimes rain is making it feel chilly. Still Cookie and I had a nice walk this afternoon and met a couple of other intrepid dog walkers to chat to so we're not the only idiots in the village are we? I popped into town today and went to the council offices where bless them they actually gave me another garden waste bag for free because the one we have is shredding with use. We have a good council down here, they manage the parks and woodlands very well indeed, the floral displays they put in are very nice and they clean the gutters regularly, they cut grass regularly everywhere and the bins are collected bi weekly regularly all in all we can't complain. Got some bargains in Mr.T 2 x packs of 4 thick pork loin steaks from the butchery reduced to £3.25 a pack and 275 grams of rare roast sirloin for £2.20, pretty delicious on rye bread with horseradish, Mmmmmmm!!! A treat tomorrow is my friend Sue and Charlie retriever are taking me out to a local village to show me a walk along a disused railway track beside the river and then we're going for coffee and I'm getting Maisie in the afternoon for a walk and then to stay until the first of the family rings to say they're home. A Cookie walk at lunchtime too so a very doggy day all round.

    Stay warm everyone, Lyn xxx.

    Thinking of you Lainey.

The next few weeks are going to be very strange for you. Lots of forms to fill in. Lots of officialdom to deal with. Lots of decisions to be made and arrangements to be....um......arranged.

I always think how awful all this is when people are at their most emotional and vulnerable.
On the other hand it does keep you grounded and your mind occupied.
I'm so glad that you are not going through it all alone. Your close family will become even closer.

Please take strength and comfort from all the love being showered on you here.

It is certainly a dull and drizzly day today. We've had the whiteness of the snow these past few days so now it's gone everything looks a bit mucky and depressing.

I quit the charity shop today. I've changed, my needs have changed and I think my tolerances have changed. It was fast becoming a nuisance in that they would want extra covering. I was set to spend most my mornings in the shop this week and enough is enough. They asked me to cover last week and I said no but that left me feeling guilty. If it brings about negative emotion it has to go and it was turning sour.

I have applied to be put on the allotment waiting list where I am moving to so that's a positive. I don't know how long that will be but it's my forever home so I can wait.

I have a lamb hotpot in my cooker, veg in my steamer pans and a content feeling that I've made the right decision. After tea I'm going to turn pizza dough into pizza for the girls' packed lunches in the next couple of days, have a bubble bath, use my new almond oil on my face and catch up on Sherlock that we didn't have the energy to watch last night.

Stay calm and relaxed everyone. Lainey I hope seeing that I am a few months down the road helps for you to see that the heart breaking sadness does leave. I'm thinking of you a great deal as all our empathic friends.

Good for you Fuds . Your mindset has altered such a lot and you and yours and the wellbeing of you all is now a fixed thing in your life . Mucky here too but at least not the horrible cold temperatures we had . It's certainly the weather for Lamb Hotpot . I was rooted to the chair for the final episode last night and loved every minute - terrible reviews today but I find you have to suspend belief and just go with it . It's a marmite thing you either love it or hate it
    Take care

Yes, the need to address all the officialdom starts tomorrow when will go over to the bungalow to pick up documents etc to register the death on wednesday. We have written a list of everyone & everywhere that will need to be contacted and have a tentative plan in place for everything else.
darling Fuds thank you, yes it does help me to know that several months down the line you are getting on and coping with it all, even finding such positive life changes coming out of such an awful time. That is something for me to focus on and aspire to xx
Seconded on the decision to leave the CS, its obviously the right time to do so and things change don't they?
We had a brief amount of sunshine this afternoon but not enough to dry the ground at all, am keeping busy around the house as time to sit and dwell is not good right now so lots of little jobs that have slipped lately are gradually being sorted.
We are due to watch Sherlock tonight so will let you know Polly, I do like marmite though!

De lurking (not sure why I am lurking and not just "joining in") to send hugs to Lainey. As Ampersand said on the "five OS pleasures"thread, it's time to FAFL(face, accept, float and let time pass)..

Hi Lainey I don't know if you already know but there is a way of informing a lot of different banks etc in one go . The name totally escapes me . I saw it mentioned a number of times on Kitties widows thread . Elona often posts or reads here and she knows about it , or maybe someone else here knows the facts .
I hope you enjoy Sherlock - just a little point not a spoiler there is a sudden appearance of a clown , like many others DD has a phobia re clowns so if anyone is similar it doesn't last long and shortly afterwards we get a load blast of Freddie Mercury which is such a joy .Love

The Tell Us Once service is for all things governmental. When Lainey goes to register the registrar should talk about it then, putting the wheels in motion. HTH
