Hi all,
Fuddle, rest up, hope you a feeling much better soon.
Well we had a ginormous storn over the weekend, lots of people without power. Sounded like our windows were going to come in during Saturday night but fortunateyl we had no damage. Just very little sleep.
So nothing got done in the garden, nor on the bike. I did manage to get lots of work done, poor DH had to spend the weekend by himself really. I hoped he would play golf but the weather was too bad.
The cats were most put out by the storm, and rampaged all night. Lucky things can sleep all day can't they!
Starting to think about winter holidays for us - we might go to Thailand, which is somewhere neither of us has been before. DH doesn't really do winter well - it's a long slog here with nothing like Christmas to break it up, so having something to look forward to will be good for him I think.
Not much news from us really, still waiting for summer to start properly!
much love

Fuddle, you are a one! I reckon that there is a dishy doctor in that A&E dept.
You'd better look after those lungs of yours they have a lot of work to do. Warning! I'm about to sing the old refrain.
KEEP WARM AND REST.
Now, Isle of Wight pudding.
I thought I knew this - some sort of Swiss roll thing containing fruit.
I googled it to get the exact recipe and find out that there are probably as many versions as people you ask. They vary from blackberries and honey in a roll made with shortcrust, covered in cream and baked, through dried fruit and lemon in a suet crust and steamed, to apples and almonds in something else - can't remember what.
In other words, I don't know. Yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice.
Tell the girls that I'm sorry and please will they try it at school and tell ME what it is.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Lyn, may it dissipate as quickly as it gathered!
Hoglet do you get a similar dullness at winter to here? For me it's the dull days that go on for days. I can cope with snow, frost but the lack of brightness drives me potty.
I bet it's the suet version as she didn't fancy it much. I'll try to twist her arm. Thinking it'll be another 4 weeks before it's on the menu again monna. The stairs and I have fallen out. It's really rather pitiful!0 -
Aw rest up Fuddle and feel better soon x0

Morning all, it's a very cold 'cotton wool' day here with thick freezing fog, when I woke up I couldn't see the summer house from the lounge window and that's only 30 feet away! The fog horns were blaring on the river from very early on too. Have just been to the chemist for some cough medicine which has been needed for a couple of days, taken some and feel better. I'm limited as to what I can take by my meds so am dealing with the coldy symptoms by taking aspirin and hot lemon and honey drinks which I have to say are very soothing.
I wish people who drive would be a little more considerate on days like this, I crossed the main road and was almost ploughed down by a woman driving a pale grey car without her lights on, you just couldn't see it! I didn't know I could still move that fast but we have a large proportion of older and less mobile folks than us in the village and she'd have hit one for sure!
Hope you're snug and resting FUDDLE and that those anti biotics are beginning to kick in and heal you.0 -
Morning all.
Lyn and Fuddle, hope you are both warm and snuggly. Keep taking the medication and corset yourselves. COSSET, tablet, COSSET.
Lyn, its thick here too and I also was woken by the foghorn concerto.
This is my sort of day, dank and dismal and I get a rush of energy. Sunshine exhausts me. I know. Weird.
Everyone is around today.
DIL doesn't work on Mondays. Pickle doesn't go to nursery. DGS has been here for the weekend as he has an INSET day today and DS2 doesn't have a lot of gardening this month.
I feel a cooking session coming on. Pickle has already appeared waving her apron at me. She wants sprinkle cakes, DGS wants sausage rolls, DS2 wants flapjack and DIL says she will help to eat any or all of them.
Here goes..........

Enjoy you baking day Monna, had to giggle at corset x
Lyn and Fuds, please rest up m'dears and keep warm.
Am having a " fun " morning calling all necessary parties, utilities etc and letting them know about DM, best so far has been Saga who were extremely helpful in every way, worst is Eon who after keeping me hanging on for nearly 15 minutes then wanted to speak to Mum as my name wasn't on the account, gggrr:mad: darling Capt is keeping me supplied with hot drinks and the occasional shoulder rub.
Onwards and upwards, at least the fog has gone and we now have some sunshine0 -
Oh Lainey I know how awfully frustrating that can be. When my mum died I spent nearly 20 minutes in Post Office trying to get her mail sent to me. The official kept insisting it wasn't possible unless I had power of attorney and I would just have get mum to do this!!!
Try to keep strong.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
Hmm at your near miss this morning Lyn. It's galling the ignorance of some drivers. It's the not thinking of what is appropriate part. You sound to not be suffering too much with the lurgy and I hope it continues that way.
I'm slowly mooching, codeine reliant at the moment but I slept well considering and think there's a slight decrease in pain levels. Thank you all for caring. PS the stairs and I have still fallen out.
Oh Lainey and AOT I do understand the annoyance with dealing with affairs. I too had a run in with the post office. British Gas were the best for me as they have bereavement/probate section. Highly trained my chap was, made me giggle and made the process seamless. He still rings to get updates on the house situation. No pressure from him at all. The water company though? My nemesis!
Monna, dear monna. Your family don't 'alf make me laugh, or rather you apron wearing, rolling pin bashing tongue and cheek description of them and their wishes. Like I read your words elsewhere "love is a strange thing".
We got all the paperwork from our solicitors today. So much bumf to read through but it was good in bed noseying about the history of the house. I do have another spanner in the works re: the fire though. It looks like there could be gas installed behind the fire place. If that is so I don't think I can justify the costs of taking it out for multi fuel. It's something that needs clarifying and quotes given before the decision but it's left me feeling a bit 'drat'. DH is calling later to try to get a date set for contract signing etc but the vendor can't find paperwork for the boiler being serviced so it maybe a case of waiting for that issue to resolve itself that pushes it back a bit. Anyway no stress. It's all falling into place.0 -
FUDDLEY ONE don't despair the stove just yet, He Who Knows when consulted says they can cap the pipe elsewhere in the gas system, even at the meter and stop the gas from being anywhere near your pretty little fireplace so before you give up on the idea it might be worth consulting a gas engineer to see what can be arranged.
Just been out for lunch, yummy I had Miso soup and Japanese pickled vegetables and then Sirloin Steak and Shitake Mushroom salad with a free cup of green tea and some tap water which came in at under 500 calories and He Who Knows had Pulled Pork Gyoza and Teriyaki Steak Udon Noodles and a diet coke which he enjoyed muchly. Came home and then walked Cookie and going between temperatures is making me sneeze my head off but not feeling too bad at the moment, quite tired as I've not had much sleep for the past 3 nights because of coughing, Ne'mind worse things happen at sea don't they?0
