Good news, Fuddle! Everything really does work out in the end.
One life - your life - live it!
  • Fuddle I can't tell you how happy I am for you, you so deserve it, and you will be cosy in your own home and be able to do what you like with it.

Lyn well done on the weight loss, it almost becomes second nature after a while doesn't it. It must have been wonderful to see a picture of your second grandchild before he is born, and of course you love him as much as Ezra. Just imagine 2 beautiful boys to love, cherish and spoil, lucky Oma and Opa.

Polly I am so pleased you have had 2 nights undisturbed sleep, it makes such a difference doesn't it. I can cope with almost anything as long as I have been able to sleep at night. When Himself was so ill at the beginning of the year he would wander the house (it is a small house) because he couldn't sleep lying down because of the fluid in his lungs, and I would be awake on and off all night. This went on for months until he went into hospital in April, and once they managed to get rid of the fluid he could actually lie down.

Lainey I am so glad Mum is settled in and you are happy to be with her. It must be like old times with both of you in the kitchen, and of course it is giving your DB and SIL a little breathing space . Hopefully it will help you recover from the trauma of last week as well, that is what Mums are for.

It is bitterly cold here today. I walked to the hairdresser this afternoon whilst Himself was having his siesta. I have defrosted the freezer, which I have wanted to do for several weeks but I still had quite a bit of food left. I am afraid I did throw a couple of things away, not very MSE, but the freezer is clean now and just drying out. Himself is with the GP early tomorrow morning for the result of his last bloods, and then we will go across to Heron Foods and stock up on vegetables, they are very reasonable. On Saturday we will buy some other things to go in ready for Christmas. I do also want to buy some milk just in case we are ever snowed in.

Take care all and stay warm

    Much love

I'm not really here, just a figment of your imaginations - between showing estate agents round, keeping the house reasonably clean and tidy and frantically trying to get caught up with knitting and other Christmas thing us, I am trying to restrict my forum reading. Can't resist th odd sneaky look though.

Fuddle: I'm not repeating all the things I have already said to you. You know how proud I am of you, please give DH a good pat on the back, (gently now) and if you can reach round that far give yourself one as well. This is the beginning of the rest of your life. No one deserves it more than you two.

Lainey: so glad you are having this precious time with your Mum. Treasure every moment and store them up in your heart.

Pollyanna: I could write a book to you my flower. Don't worry, there isn't the time, but here's praying for more peaceful slumbering nights for you. That will have to do for now, my knitting needles are gazing at me reproachfully.

Thanks so much for your kind positive words. :)

Floss petal you have to remember that housing where I am is so cheap and I am looking at the cheapest possible way of doing the whole house thing because I am so scared of having a mortgage in the first place. The houses I am going for will need updating a great deal, many don't have central heating, electrics probably need redoing, damp course needed etc. The mortgage will be low but I will have to invest the money from my half of mam's house to get it to a liveable standard. It might seem a ludicrous way of doing it but the least I can borrow means I sleep better at night. You may have a little longer on your mortgage but I bet you have less wrinkles than I through stress ;)

Speaking of which... now you know I have had my heart set on a stove all these years? Well I am trying to educate myself. Lyn has me on the right track telling me I can have the hot water linked to it and kindly set me on to a magazine that is all about sustainability/efficiency but I was wondering about whether to go for multifuel or woodburner. Also I remember my mam having to take out the openfire when I was little and get gas installed because of 'smokeless zones' and I'm looking for help with working all that out.

Please may I apologise now for the years of questions that are ahead of us and a bouncy fuddle trying to sort a house into a home.

Beautiful day here. It's chilly but white with frost and sunshine. One of my favourite combinations. I'm about to go put a sausage casserole in the slow cooker for this evening and have a sort out of my baking cupboard. Housework but fun housework ;)

Fuds you should be able to find out whether you are in a smoke control area from here: https://smokecontrol.defra.gov.uk/index.php

  • Morning FUDS check with the local authority in the area you're looking at to see what the policy is regarding coal/coke/smokeless fuel and see what they WILL let you burn in a stove if you install one. Ours here is a CLEARVIEW and is a multi fuel stove but we only burn wood, that is fine just because it says multi fuel doesn't mean you have to use multi fuel but there might be issues burning coal in a specified wood burner. We burn wood because mostly it's free if you discount the collecting (sometimes after taking down the tree) and the processing of it but retirement gives us that time needed so we're wombles when it comes to free wood. For me the very best things about having the wood stove are it being efficient enough to heat all parts of the house that we use without the central heating being used and also having the wood in store, be it free or purchased means we have already paid for it and don't face a stonking bill at the end of the season. I would always opt for a multi fuel as you then have the option to burn anything you may have in an emergency situation xxx.

Thank you Floss and Lyn :D I have checked and we're not under any controls here. Multifuel it is and I have ordered a Clearview brochure. :D

FUDDLE when you've found and got the house you'll need one of the people from the woodstove company to come out and look at the size of the room to tell you how big a stove you'll need for the area to be heated. Nell has a lovely small stove as she's in a Victorian semi detached with smaller rooms I think it is a 4.5kilowatt output, ours is 8.5 kilowatts as we've a big 32' x 16' space to fill. They'll be able to advise on things like that and also lining the chimney and putting in the solid hearth. Nell has a big 2" thick chunk of slate that fills the space in the chimney breast and comes forward the statutory 12" in front of the stove into the room. We had a brick hearth already in situ so ours was OK. I think her total installation including the stove was around £2,300 not cheap but infinitely worth the outlay. I reckon ours is the best investment we've ever made.

If ever we become suddenly rich and can move to the house in the country with the orchard and garden of my dreams what I would really like to own is an ESSE IRONHEART, look it up online FUDDLE and see what I covet!!!

Well weather wise it's been much better here, bright blue sky all day and lots of wintry sunshine, lifts the spirits no end.
Poor Mum hasn't had such a good day, she was sick not long after breakfast and hasn't really fancied much else all day, did make sure that there was a few little fancies she could pick at if wanted. She did stand with me in the kitchen and shared the mixing of the tea loaves ready for the oven, they came out smelling and looking delicious :)
Other than that it's been a quiet day for DM, I did sort through my paperwork which included contacting vets etc for clinical reports, our insurance company wants lots of information and have asked for Billy's passport to be sent off. I naively asked why only to be told that some people declare their horse has died only then to try and sell it on  I have requested for it to be returned once all paperwork etc has been completed.
All this talk of stoves is making me extremely envious, its the one thing missing from our cottage but we have so far held off as the chimney etc had been sealed up prior to us moving here. Who knows...
Have a good evening all, much love xx
  • Hello all , I will work my way backwards through todays posts !
Lainey I am so glad the bright and sunny reached you from my little corner of the north west , I did warn about the bitterly cold :)
Sorry Mum hasn't had such a good day but I expect her activity yesterday means she needs rest today - good days are worth the payback . I hope you will get dear Bills passport returned , sadly it's a result of dishonest people trying their luck and although you did not need it right now at least it means attempts are made to control fraud and exploitation . Wishing a restful night and more sun tomorrow .
    Back later
    polly xx
