Lainey you could never lose someone who was so dearly loved, he will always be with you.
How did your Mum take it, and also knowing how upset you were?
Many hugs to you
Candlelightx0 -
Ah she was upset Candlelight as had met him on lots of occasions, she also wanted to comfort me so we had a good hug and a little cry this morning. As she said, to her I am still her little girl and she hurts when I do xx0
-
Of course she does Lainey. I feel the same about our 2 girls.
A mother can't bear to see her children suffer, right from when they have to have their first innoculation to when they are upset at school, and when a relationship breaks down.
Look after each other
Much love

Good morning everyone, I hope you have not had any damage from the storm Angus overnight, He Who Knows has said we're OK at home but that the wind was severe and he's had a disturbed nigh because of it. The concert last night was wonderful, it wasn't Mozart I had the wrong piece in mind it was Beethoven and such beautiful music, a difficult sing which is why it's not well known but should be!
Nell and I are going to a Christmas market this morning and then to the cinema after lunch to see Fantastic Beasts which I'm looking forward to very much and then tonight I'm cooking some stuffed chicken thighs for supper with sprouts and chestnuts, new potatoes, stuffing balls and cranberry sauce, almost a Christmas meal which we'll enjoy lots.
LAINEY I hope you have reached acceptance and have found a smidge of inner peace, bless you Girly I'm aware of you in my thoughts all the time, hugs to you all xxx.0 -
Hello all,
We have managed to escape the high winds etc, was worried about the beech trees as they still have a good percentage of their leaves but all is well.
Your concert sounds wonderful LYN, as does your whole weekenddarling CaptainS and I are planning on seeing Fantastic Beasts at some point next week.
Must admit haven't been very OS the last few days, we treated ourselves to a takeaway and movie last night, snuggled on the sofa and shut the world away for a while.
Yes dear Lyn, there is now acceptance over the loss of my beautiful lad, am comforted by the fact that no matter how much it hurt it was 100% the right thing to do, the last big act of love I could give him, bless his heart. Think I posted on another thread that I did snip off and keep a length of his tail, when feel able will have that made into bracelet to wear in remembrance.
Well, must dash as off to pick up Mum, she is coming to ours for the day, perfick x
Have a good day everyone, much love x0 -
Evening all.
Glad to hear no serious damage from storm Angus to anyone here. For once the weather up here has been ok, cold and damp but nothing extreme which is good.
There are very few leaves left on my trees now and if it would just dry up a bit I could clear them up. I tried a bit today however they are difficult to lift when they are so wet so I didn't get many for the little bonfire we were having. The ones I did get seemed to damp it down quite quickly too:o
I have my Christmas cakes made now so they had their weekly "feed" earlier. Great way of using up alcohol which hasn't been terribly popular with guests. I must pick up some of the cake boards soon. I've been caught out in the past and found myself having to pay £3/4 for a single cake board on Christmas Eve so I think I will rummage in the pound shops before then. I have my ribbons for both and a clear idea how they will be decorated so just marzipan to pick up when I see it at a decent price.
My family don't like Christmas pudding (although it took them years to admit it) so I need to think of something else festive for dessert. I make mulled wine sorbet as an alternative and over the last few years have made Yule log, truffle torte, chestnut torte, baked Alaska, Nigellas girdlebuster pie so I need something new this year. I made iced Christmas pudding with glace fruits and champagne jellies with syllabub cream about 6 years back and both were a big success (thank you Delia!) so it's maybe time to bring them out again.
I'm hosting a slightly late thanksgiving dinner on Saturday for brother in law and sister in law and whichever nephews/girlfriends are available so I'm clear on my menu. My mind is wandering to my table decorations now. I bought three huge round place mats when we were in the US. They have Autumn fruits and berries and are embroidered with "Thankful" across them so they will be centred on the long dining table and I'm trying to work the decor around them. A very kind friend also gave me napkins a while back which are hand made and embroidered with "welcome guests". They have been well used and well admired so they will also be trotted out.
I'm heading south for a few days this week so need to be really organised in advance. I'm meeting friends for dinner somewhere at Spitalfields Market when I'm there so looking forward to it. I may even pick up some Fortnum and Mason tea and biscuits in the airport on the way back to take to Florida when we go next month. My US friends absolutely love British food, especially if it is in a nice tin. You have no idea how thrilled they are with something from M&S so Fortnum and Mason should be a big winner:) I must admit to being a sucker for nice tins - I inherited Granny's button tin which is a commemorative tin celebrating the engagement of Princess Elizabeth and Philip of Greece. It's a bit battered but much loved.
Golly, I think I've been rambling and hubby has just asked if the kettle is broken so I think I'd better make him the tea I promised a while back.
Stay warm and safe dear friends.0 -
I often get asked if the kettle is broken
We've been away to coastal Northumberland in the caravan this weekend. We're back home to soggy and rainy with school walks to do. I cannot wait to pull the curtains this evening and just hibernate. Looking forward to having my house full with the family this evening because I've struggled on my own today.
Tea is jacket potato cheese and beans.0 -
Chin up Fuddle I expect the house is very quiet with the girls being at school.
Well it is as black as the devil's armpit here. It has rained all day, sometimes torrential, and I have lamps on and my candle is burning early today.
We haven't been anywhere today, but I have been quite productive. I have wrapped quite a few christmas presents, when I found them. I had a tidy up the other week because I had bought a lot of presents and they were still in their bags. I found most, but do you think I could find the last few. Eventually found them in a box in my wardrobe.
I am having lunch tomorrow with my old boss and the "girls" I used to work with, so looking forward to that. I couldn't make the last one because I had a hospital appointment.
Lainey I hope you managed OK today collecting Bill's belongings. I have to tell you that I still have Toby's ashes in a wooden casket, the last toys he played with and the cards people sent me saying how sorry they were. and that was about 18 years ago. I know some people might think that very odd but I can't bring myself to throw the toys away.
Lainey how is Mum at the moment, did you have a good time together yesterday?
Lyn I hope you have had a safe journey home.
SM I understand there is snow up in Scotland, perhaps just as well you are going to be in the south this week.
Hoglet, I hope you are OK the weather is dreadful over here and very cold.
Take care all and sending much love

Evening all finally home and very glad to be so. The trains were all running slowly because of the weather and our train that normally has 3 carriages only had two and those two were the type used for short journeys, the ones that have two seats one side and three the other and NO upholstery whatsoever!!! the most uncomfortable seat I've ever been on but it did get me home and then poor He Who Knows was 45 minutes in stationery traffic coming to the station to get me because some idiot had turned a bin lorry over on the motorway and when that happens all the traffic spills off on to the A roads and we get gridlock!!! Home, tea, my armchair, slippers, woodstove.....familiar litany of why I'm glad to be here, HOME is GOOD!!!
FUDS I hope you have a warm and convivial family evening, I find these winter dark nights trying too and hate waking up in the dark in the mornings although today you'd not have known when daylight arrived because the sky has been so dark with clouds and rain that we couldn't actually see out of the train windows. Hats off to whoever invented the light bulb!
CANDLELIGHT I'm so understanding why you still have Toby and all things loved, we still have many of Dockys things, not him, I couldn't bear to put him in a box he was too much a free spirit but his bedding, favourite ball, leads, bowls are all here and we use the leads for Cookie because somehow that keeps him alive for us too. Each individual knows what they can do, we all have the love though don't we?
Going to have a quiet evening and stop travelling, shepherds pie and veg for tea on the stove now, had a wonderful weekend with Nell, concert beautiful, Christmas lights and lantern parade fantastic yesterday and if you haven't been to see Fantastic Beasts yet DO!!!it's fabulous and we were utterly lost in it for a couple of hours, a really lovely film and I'll get the DVD as soon as it's available, fabulous.0 -
Evening everyone,
Think we have had about two minutes of dry weather all day, mind just looking at the news we are lucky not to have experienced the floods some poor souls are coping with.
Have bitten the bullet and collected all of Bill's stuff, it's now all tucked away safely in our shed and when I feel ready will go through it and decide what will keep etc. The only time I really struggled was when I had to put his head collar away, I brought it not long after he came to live with me over eight years ago so was tatty and used but so him if you get my drift. I miss my boy
It was lovely having DM here yesterday, unfortunately she was sick a few times as has had a cough which has gone to her chest. She is taking morphine to try and help with the cough reflex and tomorrow we have a CT scan at the hospital, just to get latest picture really. Her will to live is remarkable considering everything she has been through.
As the weeks have gone on am finding more and more difficult to not be the one who is caring for her on a daily basis, for all practical reasons my DB home is a better set up but that doesn't stop the guilt and fundamental need to look after her. Think my brother is struggling to understand and we have had words today, we are both taking her for the scan so hopefully can talk it through.
Hopefully you have your feet up in front of that fire now LYN, we have just got back from walking the girls and it's a real hat, gloves and scarf kind of night.
You sound well organised CANDLELIGHT, my sole achievement so far is one present purchased, really need to get my act together. Did order my meat at the weekend though.
I too fed my Christmas cake yesterday SM, smelling good :T
Hoglet, hope you as keeping well and enjoyed your weekend.
Glad you enjoyed your weekend FUDDLE, hopefully you are now surrounded by loved ones, hugs x
Well better sign off as supper is nearly ready, cold meat and chips tonight so easy peasy.
Much love xx0
