 Well, it looks like my life as a laydee of leisure is coming to an end...some of you may know that one of my hobbies is baking & cake decorating, and I've been offered an opportunity to work in the kitchen of a local eating pub which has an excellent reputation for its desserts & cakes. It's a big departure from my professional life as a senior PA but somethings are too good to pass up on, so at 9am tomorrow I will be up to my elbows in sugar & eggs!

Oh how exciting Floss, all the best for tomorrow :) x
  • Oh Floss that sounds wonderful, I am sure you will enjoy it so much more. Good luck tomorrow

  • Well my goodness it is bitterly cold here. We went to the Crem this morning for Dad and there was a beautiful blue sky but the wind was so cold. This afternoon the sky has been almost black at times.

DGD did all her washing this morning but it needed to be dried in the TD by the time the WM has finished. I will do ours tomorrow, hopefully with a bit of luck I will be able to dry it outside.

There are a few fireworks going off at the moment, I hope not too many tonight,

No medical appointments this week thank goodness. I must phone tomorrow for a repeat prescription for Himself and I think tomorrow will be devoted to housework. Windows, cleaning the stair carpet (I always use a rubber glove to remove the fluff and cat hairs) and tidy up the little bedroom. Now, I don't want to annoy anyone, but I have quite a few "C" presents, and I have just put them in the little room. The parcels I need to send away are all wrapped and parceled up, but I need to start wrapping the other presents. I have to put my mind to this before I can start, so will gear myself up for that.

Lainey I hope you are having a good day with Mum.

Fuddle I hope you have had a reasonable weekend. I am sure quite a lot of the paperwork will have been superceded by other correspondence, so it might be satisfying to shred that when you have checked it. I am so pleased you and your sister are able to compliment each other with different tasks that need to be done, and might actually be a healing experience eventually.

SM that sounds cold to me, I hope you feel better soon. I know our temperatures are never as cold as Scotland, but I will say I don't like the cold now that I am older (old):) and Himself suffers dreadfully, his nose and ears seem to be permanently cold. We mentioned it to the blood nurse because we thought it might have something to do with the blood thinning drug he takes, but she thought not.

Lyn, I have missed your posts over the weekend, I expect you are having fun with that Zebra boy, and lots of cuddles, take care my friend.

    Hoglet, deep breath :):)

I think that is all my ramblings for the next few days, take care all and Polly I am thinking of you and the candles are already lit for you and DD and Lainey and Lainey's Mum.

    Much love to you all

    Hello everyone,

Just been catching up on your posts.

Lainey - your mum's throat sounds worrying, much love being sent to both of you. The pillows sound great as does the Chinese. And yes, there may well have to be wine over the next week - for medicinal purposes you understand.

Fuddle - what a job you have on your hadns - you have every right right to feel rpoud of your sister and yourself.

Candlelight - our Alfie hated the fireworks. The other 2 were OK but he was really terrified. He ended up cuddled up on my leg which he never does.

Mum arrives this afternoon - I'm just tracking her flight and she's about to land in Melbourne in 14 minutes. Had an email yesterday to say she had got across Dubai airport on the train OK and was about to board her next flight, the one that's just about to land. It really is a process getting here. Anyway, my main concern for her travels was her getting across Dubai so phew, needn't have worried.

House is ready-ish. That's about as ready as it will get!

    much love

  • Evening all, we're back home now after a super weekend away with Nell, Friday evening was a trip to the theatre, we had tickets for the rugby on Saturday afternoon then tickets to the Fireworks afterwards, first time in years I've been able to enjoy them and oh my I DID! today we had a lovely walk around Westonbirt Arboretum where the autumn colours were wonderful but it was extremely cold and it was nice to get back indoors afterwards. Nice to be home and have lit the fire and had supper so we're watching recorded rugby in comfort.

FUDDLE my pet, you are all being strong for each other and that is fantastic, I hope you get all the sorting and tidying done without any glitches good kids, all of you, Lyn xxx.

Floss! Go you. What a change but sounds perfect. Everything happens for a reason eh?

We've gone through all the paperwork. The house is well on its way. An awful weekend but a lot of progress made down the journey that we have no choice but to make. Anything can be done when you detach emotionally.

Time to rest my weary head. :)
  • Brrrrrr cold here today with a vicious wind that takes no prisoners!!! I've just made us a nice pot of carrot pottage for a couple of days warming lunches and I'm going to make a batch of African beans too which are mildly spiced and comfort food on such crisp days. Nice to sleep in our own bed last night but we had such a nice weekend, haven't had so much fun for ages and I think it's good for us to do different things, we get a bit set in our routine when we're here and perhaps a teensy bit bored sometimes. We're finding the TV programming a bit dire too, seem to always be watching recorded sport rather than mainstream TV with all the old familiar re runs of programmes like Midsommer Murders etc. neither one of us can do 'reality TV' or things like 'strictly' methinks we're getting old!!!

I found "Columbo" on tv yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have learned not to just click through the channels as I sometimes end up on something like "Love Island" or "Ex on the beach" and give myself a nasty shock.

Youngest DD especially is very protective of my delicate sensibilities, bless her ;)

  • We like Murdoch Mysteries, Dr Blake, Miss Fisher, Shetland, Vera lots of things of that ilk but no new programmes for a while now so constantly seem to be re watching older series. We like University Challenge and Only Connect and we both really enjoy most sport (sadly NOT football) and have a sports subscription with Sky but even things like Monty Dons gardening programmes seem to have been 'dumbed down' and Escape to the Country is one endless round of previous programmes. I can't stand the 'Bake Off' or 'Masterchef' type programmes where someone always has to be failed and depart the programme, maybe we're getting old!
