Sorry bit late in catching up but wanted to wish fuddle a speedy recovery and to send my condolences for your mum. As others have said please feel no guilt you did your best for her but she made her own choices. I have experienced the same thing first hand so my heart goes out to you. Take care of yourself xx
  • Hello all,

I hope you have a great holiday Hoglet, and I hope Fuddle is enjoying the peace and quiet and regaining her strength gently.

I have been so cold for the last 2 days but at least it isn't raining.

Well, evidently, I am still a woman of mystery. I went to see the renal Consultant yesterday and he doesn't know why my kidneys aren't working at full capacity 75%. All my bloods were OK and urine. My kidney function is stable at the moment, so he wants to see me in 6 months time. He wants me to lose a bit more weight (I have already lost 2 stone), keep up with the walking and have a low salt diet, which we already do because of the heart problem Himself has.

My appointment was late afternoon, so we decided to go by bus as there would be no way we would find a parking space at that time of day. It will be a miracle if we come out of that unscathed, so many people coughing and sneezing without a thought to using a tissue or anything. I felt exhausted when we arrived home, I hadn't slept well the night before and I felt so cold. Anyway almost back to normal today.

I had a nail appointment this morning and I am having my hair cut tomorrow. The last of the blonde will be cut out and what you see then is ME. I haven't known what colour I am since I was about 20 and I am 71 now. I am actually quite pleased with the colour, I am more white than grey so I can live with that, and both my DGDs think it is cool.

The kitchen cupboards are all clean and tidy now, it is amazing how satisfying it is once I put my mind to it.

Lainey I hope you are having a lovely day with Mum and hope she is enjoying the rest from all her visitors.

Polly, I hope you and DD are a little more comfortable, and if I remember DD is having bloods done this week.

Lyn I hope you are enjoying your time at Nell's, and hope Ezra is feeling better.

SM, hope you are OK. My sister and BIL have decided to sell their home in Florida. They had been thinking about it for a while, but evidently now might be a good time. I think they will miss it to start with.

AOT, how are you, is the cold getting to your joints as well?

Well, I think that is enough of my ramblings. Look after yourselves everyone.

Much love to you all, and candles will be lit as usual this evening

  • Candlelight - White and grey are the new blondes apparently. I was informed so by some youngsters at work last week who have both paid silly amounts to have the "must have" colour of the season. Apparently those who have it naturally are to be envied - so now you know you are our very own fashion icon!

I'm just back from London about an hour ago so will try to post properly tomorrow night. Hope everyone is well in the meantime.

    Evening all :)

I am doing well. Up and down with my emotions but getting stronger every day. We went to Lincoln yesterday and I found myself having to get up Steep Hill. I did it but I had you all in my ear telling me to take it easy! I am though. The caravan is facing a pond surrounded by a little wood and geese. Very pretty. I have my last antibiotics tomorrow and everything feels clear and like normal. The first time for a long time.

The funeral is next Thursday. I've been in close contact with my sister who has taken control of everything. I feel guilty that I get to relax while she talks with coroners and funeral directors, even the police at one point chasing paperwork but I was on my knees. She understands I think (unless it comes between us in the future as resentment as our history isn't the best)

I go home Friday. We meet with the minister on Sunday but I have done my eulogy (emotional but with a funny story) and chosen my hymn Be Thou My Vision.

I am at peace with it all but that doesn't stop the silent tears. Oh to be bothered by bread not rising or running out of suet again. Won't be long eh? Love and hugs to you all, very special people x

Fuds, be aware that the most benign thing will bring tears now and again, it never goes away but one learns to live ones life around the loss.

Maybe there are things you could do to balance out with your sister's tasks?

I think the tables will turn when it's paperwork and organisation Floss. I'll take the lead with the will and solicitors. I'm the mean time we have a house to clear so it will be an all hands on deck job there. Dreading it but there might be some childhood memories lurking to brighten us up.

I'm sure there will be, me & my 3 brothers had our family home of 30 years to clear in 2005 and there was a lot of "do you remember..." when one of us found something.

At least a lot of the paperwork & will stuff can be done at home ;)

  • Well SM, I am a mystery to the medical profession and a style icon to my friends on here, what more can a girl ask for.

Actually my hair looks good, and guess what she put silver mousse on to enhance the colour. Now I didn't know you could buy that, so that is on my shopping list, it beats colouring it every 6 weeks.

  • Thank you Mar, I will look out for that as well .
