Morning all, it was so much cooler here last night I managed to sleep right through to 7.15 this morning and feel a great deal better for having done so. It looks as though the hot weather might be tempered a little this coming week but I've just picked up a story on the newsfeed that says we might have a hurricane coming our way on Friday/Saturday that will bring 70mph winds and disrupt the weather in the UK for the following week. With the dry and hot we've been having I guess that will mean many trees down and the loss of ripening tree crops, we have a great deal of leaf drop here as it is now. Life is certainly interesting these days isn't it?
We're having an easy day with just the normal things to do, allotment, ironing, housework, cooking, dog walking etc. we'll leave the bank holiday activities to those that want them although Cookies pub is having a Monster tea Party for McMillan over the day with competitions and fun things for small folks so I'll see how that goes when I walk her, could be fun!
LAINEY have a smashing family day and I hope Mum enjoys every second of it! xxx.0 -
Good evening,
Well it has been a glorious day, washing done, dried and ironed.
Lainey I hope your family get together was good and that Mum enjoyed herself. You certainly had good weather for it.
We are hoping to cut the lawns tomorrow but nothing else planned. Himself is really quite well at the moment, so keeping fingers crossed for the holiday.
Hoglet are you OK? No doubt working hard at the moment. Flora sends puuuurrrrssss to the cats.
Polly I wonder if things are any easier for you and your DD, I hope so.
Lyn I hope Ruthie has been OK over the weekend, and that Nell isn't crumpled in a heap now that Zebra has gone home:):) She will miss him, but I suppose she will be getting everything ready for the new school year.
AOT are you OK?
Cheel where are you, I miss your early morning posts.
Have a good week
Much love

Hello all . Lainey I hope all has gone well today . Billy E sounds very spruce and lavender scented !
Lyn Nell must be tired out but what a lovely time they had .
Candlelight I am glad Himself is still keeping well . Will be hoping he remains so for his holiday and the weather is kind . I may have to sneak into your suitcase - you got me with the lavender farm !!!
It now seems I have to get hard copies of dds medical records as the only letters I have on file are from the hospitals in the other hospital trust who copy us into all their letters to our doctor . Our own region do not do so . Our surgery recently had to stop supplying information to dwp due to pressure of their workload . I can apply to view surgery held records but not get paper copies which can take some time to arrange . I am also able to apply to the nhs but it can take 40 days for them to consider the request . She has been under so many different hospitals and consultants in her life that most of it will be archived so it's a bit of a challenge .
I am watching a lovely journey through the Yorkshire Dales on bbc4 at the moment and can recommend it - All aboard! The Country Bus . Very peaceful and calming . The only sounds are the bus engine and occasionally passengers but I have the sound turned off . Two hours long but worth catching on iplayer if you would like to leave the world behind for a while .
Well I seem to have rambled on so sending good wishes to all on the thread and hugs to any who would like one .
Take care all

Hi everyone,
Sorry to be MIA for so long - stupidly busy week here last week. My online book group had a virtual party yesterday which I was helping run, and one of my authors had his book released yesterday. Last week was ridiculous trying to get everything ready for it. It was so weird yesterday suddenly not having anything to do for it as I've been working on it for 4 months.
The weather has been very mixed here, we've had great big storms and then Sunday was like a summer's day. Today is a bit overcast but last night was very chilly. The cats are all ok, Alfie loves playing on the stairs with his toys when we're trying to drop off to sleep, which is extremely sweet but he squeaks his little head off as he does it. He can't miaow properly, never has done.
Other than that, life continues on here. We've finally booked our trip to Aus at Christmas to see DH's family. His parents are visiting too so it will be nice for them to have Christmas with us and DH's brother and his family. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone but I will miss the cats.
Oh sad news, the goat my cousin's little lad was raising for school has died. Poor little thing. Everyone is very sad, it was only a month old but he can pick another one if he feels he would like to. We'll see how he goes.
Taking a sneaky break from work so I'd better get back to it,
much love to you all,
Hoglet x0 -
Evening all. Very busy bank holiday weekend so I didn't get round to posting.
Despite some heavy downpours I managed to get some fence painting done over the last few days. I suspect it will be days before I remove all of the splatters from me though:o it was very windy and I was sporting shorts and t shirt so was pretty certain to attract some green residue. I'm wearing very pretty pink nail polish in an attempt to hide the "holly" green Cuprinol which I can't get off my fingers!
We also had two of our bedroom windows replaced with upvc units. They were 20 years old and needing seen to but new double glazing is so pricey. Thankfully we have a friend who is happy to replace them as and when we can afford it. I know upvc isn't what I would ideally have but we are on such an exposed site it seems like the most sensible option. Very low maintenance although I now have the interior surround and sills to varnish.
Looking forward to my summer holidays at the end of next week. I like to have mine once everyone else is back to work. I think the next 8 days will be frantically busy though but there's light at the end of the tunnel0 -
Meant to say my parents are giving me money for my birthday so I will be looking on eBay for some pieces of my Wedgwood dinner service. Although it's still a current design people often sell very lightly/unused pieces so i will be looking there first.0

Hello all I am barely been online in the last few days - drowning in a sea of files and paper at the moment !
I have just remembered that Lyn was due to go to Nells possibly today so would like to send my best wishes , quick look at your posts shows Nell is having a birthday with cake so many happy returns form me , I am also glad you will be seeing Ruthie there is nothing like mum hugs at such a time . Still thinking of you all with hope x
Lainey I noticed you have had good news on the work front , talk about karma she certainly shot herself in the foot publicly there . Whatever you decide in the end you can hold your head high having kept your dignity . Hoping things are ok with mum .
SM I have bought china from sellers years ago through reputable sellers and you get some good buys at fair prices enjoy .
I expect you are really looking forward to the aus meet up Hoglet . I hope the weather is settling and no more storms . I do enjoy your snippets about the cats . Oh the joy of cats playing with their toys when you need to sleep !
Hoping Himself is still well Candlelight and you are looking after yourself , not long until the holiday . I can't believe we start September tomorrow - where did the year ago ?
Thanks to all who post here , take care . I am hoping to get to bed by 10pm , too many late nights and an early start to a busy day tomorrow so fingers crossed I'll manage it .

Hey everyone,
Yes Polly, went into work on Tuesday and found out that the nasty piece of work had stormed out on Friday after effing and blinding in the office about a colleague. What made it even worse is that we had visitors in at the time and they could obviously hear what was going on. Doesn't change my decision in anyway but think they are best rid.
Mum is doing ok thank you, went over there yesterday afternoon for the initial meeting with her palative care coordinator. She is a very nice, down to earth kind of person and I could see that Mum took to her straight away. We went through a lot of things and she has prescribed further tablets to help with the nausea, fingers crossed this will mean Mum can enjoy and therefore want more food. Spoke to Mum when she went and we were talking about going through the loft etc as goodness knows what's up there. Mum also said that she will start making a list of what she would like to go to whom as I would hate to not fulfill her wishes? Hard to think about at the moment.
Lyn, hope all is well with you and you enjoyed birthday and visits X
Hoglet, Christmas in Aus eh, sounds fantastic, had to laugh at Alfie squeaking at his toy X
SM, the choice of some china sounds a fab idea for the birthday money X
Candlelight, not long until the holiday now, it's fab weather here in East Anglia at the moment so will keep everything crossed it stays that way X
Hugs to everyone who reads along,
Take care all x0 -
Lainey, both my parents took great comfort in detailing their gifts & service wishes etc. I think it enabled them to keep something within their control, and also to ensure that we did everything they way they had wanted.
It is very hard to keep a sense of normality, but you will find the strength - and you will laugh too. In 2005 when mum was still with us but the secondary cancer in her brain was making her words come out wrong, my brothers & I had several sessions of hilarity & hysteria following spending time with mum. I can still remember Ds2 and I being told to "go home & plant your daffodils" because DS2 had complained about not having been fed!
PM me if you want to get anything off your chest to a remote, independent, unrelated shoulder.

It's just so incredibly sad Floss but I am pleased to have opened the dialogue, am sure she will feel better knowing that each granddaughter / son and close friends will get exactly what she had ear-marked for them.
How true re a sense of humour, my darling eldest brother died from a brain tumour and towards the end he forgot a lot of words but could remember many song lyrics and quotes from films. A number of conversations dissolved into laughter when trying to find a quote to fit, always makes me smile thinking about them.
Thank you xx0
