Lyn I must have missed the fact that little one is a little boy until your latest post . As you know I am a great believer in Pandora , her box and hope . Surely all the love from those in real life and across the os threads will send a message to the universe and things will be well .
Would you blow those clouds towards the nw coastline please ? I seem to have an ironing mountain of huge proportions . It is so hot and humid I don't fancy starting but I must make a start although it may take a few days to actually finish !!! Enjoy your evening with HWK .
Candlelight I forgot earlier to send feel better wishes to your daughter . At least she had a good time so sometimes it's a matter of doing something and paying later - know that one well .
polly xIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.0 -
Pollyanna- mum is still well able to get out and choose gifts herself. Her biggest challenge is time - my parents are still running a large farm full time with whatever help hubby and I can give them when we've finished our paying jobs. They are in their 70s but reasonably fit and well and have no intentions of retiring anytime soon:)
She's just always been obsessed with giving something tangible and making sure that when she gives to my sister (who always has an extensive wish list!) she gives me something too. I know I sound terribly ungrateful however I just have lots of things.
I do have a Wedgwood dinner service which I adore and use quite often when we have family and guests round. I'm thinking I may ask for something along those lines. That way it would certainly be used.
It may solve the dilemma for both of us!0 -

Great minds think alike:D I have most things including vegetable dishes, tureens and a 12 piece dinner service however was actually thinking I didn't have a large meat platter and I don't have a gravy boat either so I may well go for one of those. My grandmother left me a silver gravy boat however it's such a pain to clean I tend to avoid using it so a fine china one would be less maintenance:)
I'm an old fashioned girl, I love nothing more than a dining table laid with a formal dinner service, granny's silver cutlery and some of the crystal we received in wedding gifts. I know lots of my friends were less than thrilled to receive gifts like that at a time in our lives when we all really needed more practical things however I always knew I would get the use from them. I believe nice things should be used and enjoyed.0 -
Morning, another heavy and sticky day here today, outside feels like walking through half set custard! He Who Knows has been to the allotment and I've frozen everything that can be and my lovely brother is taking the two bigger courgettes and some of the tomato mountain, hoorah!!!
GCSE results day today and whilst thinking of the youngsters who will be getting their results spare a thought for the teachers who have taught them, I know it costs Nell dear in worry about those who haven't performed well under exam conditions and have not fulfilled their potential. It's the staff who have to pick up pieces for disappointed pupils AND their parents who always want someone to blame and call incompetent as it's NEVER that their young ones have maybe not put in the work, have not the ability their parents think they have or have just either not read the paper properly or poor little ones just gone to pieces under the pressure. I think it's worse since the introduction of League Tables because schools competing against each other for top spots makes for a whole raft of other pressures on staff too! Those staff too will have to run extra classes for pupils wanting to do resits whilst teaching a full timetable to the new pupils who have moved up an academic year.
The gardens are starting to wind down into autumn, one of the runner bean wigwams is virtually finished and is dying back and the other has slowed dramatically, the tomatoes are slowing too but the blackberries are rampant and still producing kilos of fruit. He Who Knows dug some of Nells potatoes yesterday and they are HUGE, they decided to leave a couple of plants in though so my Zebra can 'find' the potatoes in the earth when he's with Nell this weekend, which he'll love.
Have yourselves a nice day, Lyn xxx.0 -
Good morning all,
The weather is beautiful here today. Have stripped the bed and the linen is outside soaking up the sun.
We have been shopping, we actually didn't need a lot, picked up an order from M&S for 2 new cushions, bought in the sale and went for a lovely coffee in their coffee shop.
I have masses of ironing to do, several of my shirts and a table cloth, and then the pillow slips which are outside.
We don't have anything in particular planned for the bank holiday and DGD hasn't any plans at the moment but of course that can changeDo you know we love having her with us, we don't see a great deal of her what with work, BF and like most young people spends a good deal of time in her room watching DVDs. It is reassuring for me to know there is someone else here if Himself is taken ill in the night.
Lainey sorry Mum didn't feel so well yesterday. Nausea is a horrible thing, and of course she won't want to eat when she feels like that, I hope she isn't feeling so bad today, and hope she can have a good weekend with your brother and family.
I feel sorry for poor Bill, I would hate flies buzzing round me in the hot weather.
Lyn, the scent of lavender still wafts through our home, I hope Ruthie is OK this morning, and what fun Nell and Zebra will have this weekend, I hope the weather stays fine for them.
Polly good to see you, but I am so sorry you have those problems to sort out.
Hoglet I hope you are all OKand hope the weather isn't too bad.
SM, hello, I think you must be working far too hard, Do you have August Bank holiday in Scotland, if so take some time out?
Have a good weekend everyone and stay safe
Much love

Hi Candlelight, it's a much nicer day here too, still warm but we have a breeze and the humidity is right down too, much more comfy. We've just been across to my farm butchery and the veg stall and got some nice things, I got a lovely piece of brisket, rolled, all lean and no gristle, I got a pack of diced mutton, a couple of fresh butchery made faggots and some sausage rolls and we had a coffee in their caf! too. Veg stall was less good but I did get 4 new seasons Discovery apples and a bunch of carrots. I guess the new season fresh veg and fruit isn't quite ready yet. It all looked vaguely end of summer and there were many fruit flies in evidence and the produce had suffered in transit, it looked very sad!
Ruthie was fine this morning as far as I know, she spoke to Nell and said she would be taking Zebra up as soon as they'd finished breakfast and gotten ready. She understandably doesn't want to talk about things so I hope they have as pleasant a visit as is possible and enjoy the sunshine in Nells garden.
Love to all of you, Hope Laineys mumsie is having a better day today and that Bill is enjoying his day too and that Polly and her lovely daughter are having a better day too today, think of you all so much and often wonder what you're all doing at the time, look after yourselves, Lyn xxx.
Why does the filter always make the word c a f e into caf!? is it rude in any connotation that I'm not aware of? doesn't make any sense at all!0 -
It's an absolute peach of a day here in East Anglia as well. There is not a cloud in a bright blue sky, it's warm again but much fresher with a cool breeze blowing through.
We were up and about early this morning, the girls were walked and fed by 7am, with the first load of washing out on the line not long after. I have washed the dogs blanket and also steam cleaned the cover on the small futon that Tilly uses for her bed. Rosie has her special orthopaedic bed but Tilly-Lou isn't keen on sharing that so has her own "couch" - spoilt isn't the word
Went to W8rose this morning as needed a few bits from there, managed to pick up some YS bargains including some of their lovely big, organic chicken thighs and a pack of tasty looking apricot and sausage meat stuffing, think will make a big meat loaf next week and use that instead of usual dry stuffing mix.
Spoke to Mum when we got home and she had had a rough night with the pain so persuaded her to ring the surgery and see if a doc would come out which they did. She has prescribed some low dose morphine so fingers crossed it makes Mum more comfy. Did ask Mum if she wanted me to come over but she said would go back to bed and hopefully catch up on some sleep. My brother is due to pick her up tomorrow morning, for some reason thought it was today, hopefully she will feel up to a weekend away.
Have made my mind up and will be handing in my resignation on Tuesday, time is too precious to spend time away from those I love at the moment, it's stress that I don't need in my life and as my darling OH said we have saved for a rainy day and here it is. I will try and work the months notice they require but will take it day by day.
Feel much better having made the decision so know it's the right one.
Like Lyn I spend time in the day wondering what you are all up to, here's hoping you are all enjoying your day, love & blessings to you all xx0 -
Lainey, that is such a brave, sensible thing to do. There is nothing more miserable than being unhappy at work, unless it is being unhappy at home but you know what I mean. You will feel so much better not having that stress any more.
I do hope that the pain relief means that your mother can enjoy being away this weekend. It will be good for you too knowing that she is surrounded by family and well cared for.
Everyone seems to be enjoying the lovely weather, it has been gorgeous, hasn't it?
I'm not too keen on the hot nights but will happily put up with them if it means the days will be truly summery.
We have made the most of the beach. It's not that we don't go there whatever the weather but to see the sun sparkling on the sea, children happily frolicking on the sand and the horses going for their daily paddle in the sunshine makes it all look right somehow.
It's somehow sad to think that summer is almost over but personally I absolutely loved the Autumn. I don't know if it is due to a lifetime spent in education but to me September is much more the beginning of the year than January is.
When I had my own home I loved being like the animals and making my preparation for winter, all the foraging, gathering, storing, jam and pickle making - lovely!
I must be feeling philosophical today.
