Evening all. Sorry I've been missing all week, it's been ridiculously busy although I'm not sure what I can show for all my efforts!

Candlelight - home made gammon and new potatoes sound delicious and MrsLW you certainly have lots of produce now. I'm quite envious - I have lots of tiddly tomatoes but nowhere near ready to eat. I did notice my blackcurrants are starting to ripen which I thought was a bit early so I may be making jam over the next few weekends. I still have some of last years blackcurrant jam - to say it is firm is an understatement. It needs chiselling from the jar:rotfl:

Lainey - I hope Bill finds a good home. I bet he is enjoying the black treacle sandwich. My father often buys treacle in bulk to pour over the cattle feed in winter. They love it over turnips and parsnips although if you pass the cattle shed a while later it makes from some interesting aromas:)

Someone mentioned sourdough bread earlier. That's a real favourite of mine. I've been trying to avoid bread as I find it makes me horribly bloated and feeling quite unwell. It's like an addiction though. I love a slice of white bread and proper butter so it is a real struggle to kick the habit.

I had a couple of pomegranates in the fruit bowl which I used earlier for a fruit salad for my lunch tomorrow. I'm sure there is A more efficient way of getting the seeds out than I managed. What a mess I made, juice everywhere and white bits all through the seeds. I need to check my trust old Good Housekeeping book for instructions.

It's been very wet on and off here all weekend so no gardening at all and the grass desperately needs cut. Fingers crossed we all get some dry weather this week. Hard to believe July will be upon us in a day or two.

    Hi all,

Sorry I hav ebeen MIA for too long. I'm working on another project now with a pal, so I think I've got 4 sorts of jobs on the go now. This new one is a fun one though, I'm really going to enjoy it.

Lots of cleaning got done here this weekend as my stepkids arrive from the UK on Wednesday. We're all very excited, but the house is in shock after suffering from neglect with just the 2 of us rattling around in it most of the time. 2 rooms thoroughly cleaned and made up and the other bathroom sorted. The big job was sorting through all the junk that had accumulated in piles in the study. The cats will be pleased to see them as they'll enjoy having company during the day. The girls haven't met Alfie yet either.

We've got a holiday coming up in a few weeks where we're taking the girls to the Gold Coast to thaw out. Our winters are nothing like a UK winter up here in Auckland but the girls are used to houses with central heating and double glazing.

    Much love,

    Hoglet xxx
  • SM to get seeds out of pomegranates cut them in half, turn them inside out so the skin is cup shaped, hold then over a large bowl and bash the skin with a wooden spoon, the seeds should just fall out.

I kind of half tried that but had to prise the seeds out. the outer skin was a bit wrinkly and I'm now wondering if it was a bit dried up which resulted in them not falling out with a good whack.

    Hello!

Well the girls arrived safely yesterday so that was good news - tracking their flights felt like forever just watching them, let alone having to do it. I lovel flying but 30 hrs is hard work. Took them out for nice burgers last night and then they went to bed, they were absolutely zonked. Not entirely sure what they're going to be doing over the next few days, not a lot I'm guessing, but we're all going out on Saturday to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

The weather of course is absolutely disgusting! It's rained no-stop for almost a week now, hoping it will clear up before the weekend.

    much love

    Hi everyone,

    Hope you're all well.

Candlelight - how is Himself getting on now?

We had a lovely weekend, helped by beautiful if freezing at night weather. I got out on my bike whilst DH was a rugby on Saturday and then we got the SIM sorted for the girls' phone. We'd got one for $5 but it wasn't working, took it back to the shop and they said it had been from a dodgy batch and sorted a new one for us. DH and I went to watch rugby and then we all went out for a nice meal for our wedding anniversary.

Sunday was dead quiet, just sorting stuff around the house. Cats are all snuggly cos it's so cold. We'll do a day out with the girls next weekend - we've saved some money to spend on trips with them, tho of course, as always with us, when we've saved money to have some fun something breaks in the house. This week it was the dishwasher which has died, but we won't replace it till after the kids have gone so we can still do what we've got planned with them.

So proud to now be the owner of a shiny MSE badge - as of 1st July we became debt free, and what a long journey that has been. At some points I never thought I'd see the day but chipping away at it and reducing our spending has worked. Now to get rid of the mortgage!

    Good evening all,

We have had a quiet day here, nothing special happening and no medical appointments this coming week.

Hoglet, Himself is doing well, thank you for asking.. He is keeping the fluid at bay, weighs himself each morning just to be sure. He does get a bit down at times, which I think is understandable. There is nothing to be done, no cure or operation, but the medication he takes should keep him on the straight and narrow. I was saying to my friend Iris, it is sometimes difficult to always be the one to be seen to be strong. It is such a re sponsibility to be caring for someone who is so ill, but of course it passes. Her DH is very ill as well and I think she understands.

I hope you have a lovely time with your stepdaughters, are they teenagers? A belated happy anniversary as well, ours was on the 24th June.

We have had such rain the last few days and everything has grown a pace. We did the front garden yesterday, which is only small, and it took us about 2 hours. Everything needed cutting back and the hedge had grown so much. Anyway we are nice and tidy at the front, now we have to make a start on our enormous back garden.

I went to see the renal Consultant on Thursday and he tells me I am a mystery :) Of course anyone who knows me is already aware of this!!!! My bloods, urine and ultra sound all came back normal, so no lumps or bumps on my kidneys which is a relief. He does want me to change my BP tablets because they can cause kidney problems, but other than that he will see me in 4 months. I told him I feel fine but the GP had noticed my kidney function was down, but now it is 75% which DD1 tells me is not bad for an old bird like me.

AOT:wave: I hope you are reasonably well. Have you had any holiday this year?

Many congratulations to our Lyn and family on an expected grandchild in the new year, Zebra will make a lovely big brother.

    Hope everyone else is well

    Love to you all
