  • Hi Hoglet,

    Good to hear from you.

DGD dressed Flora up in a Santa suit for a photogrph to put on her Christmas cards, and FTM showed the photo on her blog, so we now call her superstar. :):)

Like Alfie, Flora likes to knock things off tables etc, particularly remote controls.

I am glad the plants are doing well, cheese and lettuce sandwiches with a touch of mayo, delicious.

We have had a lot of rain here, but not nearly as much as the folks up in Cumbria and Scotland. It would break my heart to have all that muck and sewage running through my home, my heart goes out to them. Well all the Christmas shopping is done now and all wrapped, so we are ready to go.

I am meeting the girls I worked with on Tuesday evening at Wetherspoons, they do a lovely steak, and it will be good to catch up on all the news and exchange cards.

I am not fond of these dark evenings but after the 21st December it will start to get a little lighter, thank goodness

Have a good week all and take care

  • I'm looking forward to 22nd December too Candlelight and the thought of evenings stretching out a bit and some more daylight.
We have more rain forecast for this week which isn't good. I'm not sure how much more the ground can handle. It's bad but not as desperate as in Cumbria where friends of ours have almost 90% of their farmland under water at the moment. doesnt bear thinking about.

It's a short update tonight. I had big plans however have spent the last while watching Sleepless in Seattle. Good movie but really not best use of my time:o

Enjoy the last of the weekend everyone. I'll be back tomorrow night hopefully.

Evening all, hope everyone has had a good weekend.

Mine has been so relaxing with a combination of time spent with loved ones and quality time to myself.
Am starting to feel festive after wrapping some presents and made a start on decorating the house. Yet to get a tree though as we like to put a small, real one in the inglenook in the lounge, as a pagan it's important to me to have greenery in the house plus putting it in the fireplace keeps it out of the dogs way :)
We have planted the ones from last few years in a gap in the hedge, which is on the side of the house facing the field and they do a good job at providing a bit more shelter. Our local nursery sell them with a decent root ball on them so will go and have a look tomorrow.
Another thing I always enjoy doing is having a seasonal display on the mantelpiece in the dining room and have changed that from Autumn to Winter, so loads of cones etc now with one of those battery operated garlands, very festive and twinkly.
Have a busy week ahead with a trip over to see my DSIL and DN's tomorrow, my eldest niece has her own health and beauty business so have booked in for one of her amazing Indian Head Massages, mmm can't wait.

My lovely lad still needs grazing in hand every day but also exercising now so my days quickly fill up, really don't know how will manage to fit any kind of paid work in but need to start thinking along those lines in the new year:o

Wishing you all a good week, Lyn. -hope you enjoy Berlin Candlelight. - enjoy your meal with pals Hoglet - love hearing about your garden in the depths of our winter.
    Night all xx
  • Morning all, grey and very still here today, He Who Knows has just gone to walk Cookie and I'm trying to wake up!!! had a much better nights sleep last night and was actually able to remove a couple of pillows from the prop upright pile and sleep better. Wonderful stuff is Buttercup cough medicine, I'd never had it before this but the pharmacist said it contains lots of capsicin which loosens tightness in your chest and so it does, makes me feel so much better and far less noisy. Housework top to bottom today, feel like I have the energy back to do it, changed the beds and washed the bedding yesterday evening and stood it on the maiden in front of the woodstove as we went to bed last night and this morning it is perfectly dry, good stuff!

CANDLELIGHT picture of Flora dressed as Santa??? please???

HOGLET glad you have thriving lettuce, we had a fairly bad crop this year, no matter where we tried to plant them inside, outside, they failed to thrive and had very little flavour if they did grow, funny old year, enjoy yours.

LAINY well done that BILL for getting back to health, long journey I suspect but he's well into the first few steps, with Mumi to help of course, long may it continue too!!!

    SM don't float away!

    Look after yourselves, Lyn xxx.
  • Lyn, I can't do photos :):)

Have a look at Sara's blog she is on there.

Have a great time in Berlin

  • CANDLELIGHT have just looked at Saras blog and Flora is so pretty!!! Sent Sara and the girls a parcel a couple of days ago, if you speak to her would you tell her it's coming for me please, I don't have a contact other than through MSE and she's seldom seen here these days, pity she's a good woman and I miss her but I do pop in on her blog from time to time so I know just how well they're doing, xxx.
  • Will do Lyn

  • Oh Candlelight I've just looked at FTM's blog - Flora is adorable! Such a pretty cat and so good natured to put up with the Santa suit. I wish I knew how to share photos of our 3 with you. I found out what the the fuss under the bed was - I should have looked before really. Bird gift. Lovely - thanks rotters - we don't need any more ta.

I hope you have a lovely time out with your old work pals. And well done for getting the Christmas shopping done. I've got 2 more people to buy for and I'm waiting on some arrivals from Amazon... cheaper to buy on UK Amazon and pay for shipping to NZ than to buy in the shops here. Ludicrous!

    Work beckons,

    Love Hoglet xxx
  • She is pretty isn't she. Believe me she only kept the suit on long enough for the photo to be taken .

How kind of the cats to leave an early Christmas present under the bed :):)

I had a lovely time last night with friends, but as usual I came away hoarse. There was a very noisy office party next to us and it sometimes difficult to talk, and I am afraid I am a little deaf now. I won't admit that to Himself, but I seem to miss the first 2 words when someone is talking to me and can get me into all sorts of trouble because I am guessing what someone has said.

Going to visit friends tomorrow with Christmas presents. He had a double bypass in the summer and he has now had a pacemaker so he has been through the mill a bit, but his wife said he is doing well so it will be nice to see them both.

DGD1 is going to London tomorrow with her BF for a couple of days, and I have asked her to just let me know that they have arrived safely. I know she is 22 but I still worry.

    Have a good evening all

    Much love

  • Afternoon all. So much for posting again in Monday- Thursday already and I'm only just back:o

It's been a bit of a fraught week. We lost a family member to cancer on Sunday and an old family friend died in Monday. We've had so many deaths recently and this time the funerals coincide so we've had to agree who will represent the family at each funeral. it seems so cold to do his but we simply can't all be in multiple places at once.
My latest news didn't go down well at work and although I've used holiday entitlement for all but one of the times off needed I feel eyebrows are being raised over how often this has happened recently.
I'm away after Christmas for a few weeks so hopefully by the time I get back it may have been put aside.

My parents and sister agreed earlier in the year that we wouldn't exchange gifts and my husbands nephews also said they felt they shouldn't be accepting gifts (they are well into their twenties though!) so I only had to shop for a few small gifts for hubby and one aunt. I'm normally ultra organised however I seemed to be almost giddy with the though of no gift hunting for the usual suspects that I only realised at the weekend I had nothing for the only two people I needed to buy for.
For the first time in a while I haven't ordered a turkey either. I'll just pop to Costco and pick one up. To be honest I'm not sure if I feel quite rebellious this year or simply can't be bothered:o either way it's time for me to pull together a plan and get my act together or Christmas lunch will not be the streamlined affair that it usually is!

The rain has subsided a but up here however it is ridiculously mild - 11 degrees today. It's not good for the cattle who are inside during the winter. Tends to spread pneumonia and other disease if it's too mild so we are hoping for a cold dry snap soon. My plants are also very confused, I have an azalea which looks as though it is easy to flower any time and I saw some spring bulb shoots poking through the ground at the weekend.

I'm working from home today and posting between meetings. It's slowing down a bit as people break up over the holidays so I'm taking the chance to catch up on things like tidying up my files and deleting information I no longer need. I'm a bit of a neat freak, even in the electronic world, so much happier when things are neat and organised.
My four legged intruders are back - heads nipped off the pansies in the planters and they have been nibbled so neatly it has to be the deer again. Hubby is gunning for them (literally) although he has been somewhat sidetracked by a rampant mole right across the best part of my lawn. The joys of living in the countryside - you never know who or what will be your next adversary:)
