  • Morning everyone,

Well the weather was good to us this weekend. Got all the chores done on Saturday as we were out all day Sunday. We went fishing on Sun and caught not a thing, so gave up and went to the garden centre. I've decided on having a blueberry bush for my christmas present - DH never knows what to get me so unless I come up with something I'll likely to get nowt. We don't do big gifts for each other, seems pretty pointless, but I do like a little something. Anyway, they had quite a variety of blueberry bushes so I'm going to do some research as to which would be the best to get. Bought some seeds so I got some more salady things planted as my first batch is ready for harvest.

DH will be away for 3 out of 5 days this week so a quiet week for me. I frog marched him to the library on Sat and made him sign up so now he has audio books and magazines on his ipad for his trip.

Better do some work I guess, love to you all,

    Hoglet xxx
  • Evening all. I can't believe Monday is over and we are well into the week already! I have a whole weeks holiday which I was looking forward to doing exactly what I wanted with the 5 days. The best laid plans though- a family friend died last week and the funeral is tomorrow which will take care of the day. I was asked to bake for the funeral tea which is in the local church hall so that pretty much kept me occupied all day today. I have a dentist and doctor appointment on Wednesday and am taking mum to lunch on Thursday as a belated birthday gift. Mum also has an appointment at the hospital retinopathy clinic late on Thursday so she asked if I could take her. I guess I might have Friday to do as I please :o

I also committed to making some crafts for a fund raising fayre which is taking place soon at a special needs school nearby. I've now completed my first red, white and green yarn wreath which now just needs some embellishment - maybe felt flowers or Pom poms. I can honestly say I'm feeling the pressure on these craft makes. I manage multi million pound budgets, IT changes and staff crises on a daily basis without being up or down but I'm stressed out my tights as we say in Glasgow at the thought of what I need to produce for this craft stall:( it's such an amazing school with the most wonderful staff so I just need to get my act together. I feel a few late nights coming on!

I visited my late friends husband at the sheltered hosing on Saturday. He's not settling on too well. The other residents are largely unable to leave their rooms so there is very little interaction which is making for long days. It was his birthday so I took him some artists paints, brushes and sketch pads as he used to be a keen artist. He was thrilled, was talking about painting Christmas cards when I left him. I also took a pack of cards as he likes the odd game or two although I think he prefers a much more accomplished opponent than me!
I've always fancied playing bridge so perhaps after Christmas I will ask if he knows how. Would be good for both of us to have a purpose for the visits.

Anyway I'm off to make sure hubby's white shirt and black tie are clean for tomorrow. It never ceases to amaze me how things can disappear exactly when needed:)

  • Well, it may be Friday but I have at least progressed in the craft front. I have 3 red, white and green yarn wrapped wreaths which I'm thrilled with. Tomorrows task is to make felt poinsettia flowers to adorn them and they will be complete:)

its been the quickest week ever. Always the same when I have some time off. Didn't achieve anything outstanding however I've tidied up lots of bits and pieces which needed seen to. Also managed to take mum out for her belated birthday lunch which was very nice.

We seem to be in the grip of another storm up here this evening. The wind is howling round our ears which I really hate. I seem to pick up on every noise when it's windy and imagine something has blown away or is damaged. I'll be patrolling tomorrow morning as soon as it is daylight to see if everything is still intact!

Hope everyone is well and staying safe and dry.

SM well done on the crafting I am sure it will be very well received

We have had an horrendous night. The wind sounds so angry it will be miracle if everything is standing where it should be. I don't like it, in fact I find it very frightening. I know some people feel nice and cosy at home with the wind howling, I don't, it frightens the life out of me.

Will be back later with full report of weeks happenings, which actually isn't much

    Stay safe all

I'm another one who hates wind, it can do a lot of damage. Last night and today here it's quite bad.
  • Mar, if it is bad here in the Midlands your's must be twice as bad up in Scotland.

Batten down the hatches and stay safe

SM - very envious of your crafting projects, that's one of the things have promised myself to do more of in the new year. I don't have much confidence in my own abilities and instead of thinking well only practice will change that I give up, tsk.

That said, an currently sitting on my sofa with my sewing box and bits of mending on my lap. Captain Scarlet is off watching his youngest play football, have been through the house like a whirling dervish and am now enjoying a much anticipated cuppa. The house badly needed doing as have let things slip rather this week but all sorted now.
It's been a busy old week with my lovely boy going into the equine hospital, lots of tests and two overnights stays later and it turns out he has arthritis in his left hind stifle (top of leg). The good news is that there are things we can do to make him more comfortable such as steroid injections, special farrier work etc so on the whole am pleased with the outcome. Tbh as long as he stays with his Mum that's all that matters. So, back to EH on Tuesday for his injections and then he will be assessed the week after. Another good bit of news is that my insurance company has approved the claim so at least the majority of the costs will be paid by them, phew.

Anyways, better get on and get this hem up. The girls will need a quick walk soon before its get dark. It's really windy here but no rain, am thinking of all my OS friends all over the country who have got it a lot worse, please take care everyone and keep safe.

Wow that was a night lol -hope everybody affected is ok and still at home cosy. Lovely cold sunny morning now, what a change!
  • It's like a different world today isn't it :D

I'm astonished we didn't have a power cut last night we have huge windows at the front of the house and I could see the panes moving which was really alarming me. Hubby suggested I go to bed early if it was bothering me however there was no danger of sleeping through it.

Still lots of flooding. We have 3 routes away from our home. 2 of them are completely impassable for the foreseeable future due to flooding and the third is passable with care. It's going to be quite some time before this dries out. I'm praying the temperature stays up as frost would be deadly now.

My windows are so dirty I can barely see out, not sure how worthwhile washing them will be however I feel I need to make the effort so that's what I'm off to do now!

  • Good afternoon all,

After another horrendous night things are calm now, thank goodness.

It would be my Mum's birthday on Tuesday so we went to the Crem about 10 this morning with flowers and by the time we were home it was pouring with rain. It has now stopped and hardly any wind.

We didn't do anything in particular last week, just the usual things. Now restocking a clean and frost free freezer. All presents are bought I just have some Thorntons chocs to buy for DD to go in her stocking.

This week we must try to go up to the hospital for our yearly blood tests. We try to put it off because of the parking but must try before Christmas.

We have just had some lovely braising steak for lunch with baby new potatoes, baby broccoli and garden peas and a yorkie. I cooked the meat in the slow cooker and it was so tender and made a lovely gravy.

Lainey if I don't get back before Tuesday good luck to your Boy on Tuesday I hope the steroid injections give him some relief.

Mar, I am glad you are safe, living at the top of a hill obviously has some advantages. I was a little concerned for Rainy Days because I am sure she lives in Cumbria and I haven't seen a post from her for a few days, I hope she is safe.

SM it sounds as though it will be a little while before you are back to normal, stay safe

DGD1 is in all day so that is nice and she has just done all her washing.

Lyn I hope you enjoyed the concert, I am sure you did, and you have a safe journey home.

Hoglet I hope you are OK. I read a blog by an Australian lady and she has just started to pick her tomatoes, how are you doing, will you be a little later than Australia? Flora sends purrrrs to cats.

    Take care all

    Much love
