    Morning all, just about :)

All prepped and ready to go and pick my Mum up in a few minutes, the sky has cleared quite a lot now and the sun is making an appearance so should be a pleasant drive. Mum lives about 30 minutes away through some stunning Suffolk countryside and despite the fact she is now in a bungalow rather than our old family home it always feels like I am going home if you know what I mean.

Looking forward to having her stay for a couple of days, planning on taking a visit to Cambridge tomorrow morning so that she can pick up some pressies etc, the grand arcade has a good variety of shops with a few small independent ones for something rather more unique. She is very partial to hot choc so will no doubt be making a couple of pit stops.

Lyn - your concert sounds lovely and no doubt very atmospheric in such a grand setting, glad you enjoyed x

VJsMum - your Saturday seemed just about perfick in my book

Hugs to everyone, enjoy your Sunday xx
  • Hello everyone!

Lovely to see so many posts on the thread and to catch up with everyone.

Well, we had an absoultey gigantic thunderstorm on Saturday night. No damage to our property thank goodness but no sleep for most of the night. It just kept coming and coming - lightning almost every 10 seconds or so from 1.30 am to 5 am. The thunder was the loudest I've ever heard and the rolls went on and on. There were over 3500 lightning strikes. Of course we were worried about the cats but they were completely unfazed.

It wasn't really the weather to go out over the weekend so I had a nice relaxing time reading magazines online from the library. Our library has signed up to Zinio so we can get up to about 400 magazines free each month. Also, they don't need to be returned. I love the gardneing and cooking ones, and they are so pricey I really can't believe what a good deal we get being able to have them for free. I am planning on making the garden much more productive so I've downlaoded all the back issues I'm able to of the gardening mags too, rather than just reading the current ones.

I did manage a quick trip on the bike to the spice shop - my cheapy Indian shop has shut down but there is a shop that sells spices and flours etc in bins which is still much cheaper than the supermarkets. Felt virtuous going on the bike and as soon as I got back the heavens opened so it was well timed.

Other than that there's not much to report from us. I do hope the storms are easing for you.

    Much love,

    Hoglet x

Hi all. Just popping in whilst there are still a few hours of the weekend left.

Had a very nice evening at the theatre on Friday. Saw the stage version of "Miracle on 34th Street" which was lovely. One of my favourite films and even better with some music thrown in.

Well, the carpet stain couldn't be budged. The man was lovely and tried all sorts but no joy. I don't think he was at all convinced that I had only used vinegar, water and baking soda as he said it shouldn't have set the stain. Anyway other than an insurance claim with all the upheaval of replacing the carpet the only other option was to move the furniture around to hide it. It looks odd to me however I think that's because I know why I've moved things - I'll have to learn to live with it.

My dear friends husband has been taken into sheltered housing in a respite basis for the next 8 weeks. I feel like a tornado has blown in as this happened very quickly. Very mixed feelings about it. It feels terrible for him to have this upheaval after losing her not so long ago but I will worry less knowing he will be warm and safe over the worst of the winter. I was very concerned he wasn't heating the house properly and it was very old and quaint with so many places he could trip and fall. The sheltered complex is only 10 minutes drive from me and he has his own studio flat style room so I and other neighbours can visit him regularly.

We had snow here over the weekend although it didn't last. The temperature has been down to minus 4 and has hovered at freezing all day so I dug a good chunk of the potatoes up and hubby will tackle the rest tosmorrow night before they get much more frost.
I also have some beetroot (only 4 or so) which need lifted. Not enough to pickle so I may roast them instead.

I volunteered to make some Christmas decorations for a craft stall to raise money for a special needs school so I picked up some big oranges in Mr A then sliced and dried them earlier. I have carrier bag of pine cones from previous years so if I get some cinnamon sticks and perhaps find some nice ribbon I think I could make something very quickly with those.
I did see a nice wreath made of orange slices however I think I would need absolutely masses to make a decent sized wreath.

Off to bed now, not sleeping too well at the moment and Sunday night is never great so fingers crossed I'm not clock watching for hours!

  • Evening all, back home after a wonderful concert and a lovely weekend with Nell. Walked Cookie this afternoon as I wanted a leg stretch after sitting on the train and fell asleep in my armchair after a cuppa later on! Nice to be home, nice to have my slippers!!!
  • Good to see you back Lyn, glad you had a lovely weekend with Nell.

It was so cold here on Saturday, I just couldn't get warm.

DGD1 has finished decorating her bedroom and it looks lovely. The wardrobe she ordered from I*ea was delivered at 8 p.m. last night and she had assembled it, on her own, by 10.p.m. She declined all offers of help, and my goodness she is a worker. When she comes home from work tonight, and after her meal she will sort her clothes out. The next thing she wants to do is paint the pine chest of drawers :):):)

The walls are a beautiful silver grey, and she already had silver and black bed linen and black curtains, so she is very much co-ordinated.

Himself and I have been busy sorting the little bedroom out and have more stuff for the Hospice Shop. DGD didn't want quite so much furniture in her room so we have had to accommodate it in the little bedroom. All done now so just a visit to the Hospice shop in the morning

SM so sorry about the carpet, I know you know where the stain is but I don't think visitors will.

VJs Mum it sounds as though you were having a good weekend with DD, she will be home for the Christmas holiday soon, so more time together.

Hoglet your weather is not good at the moment by the sound of it. Our storms have ceased for the time being but it is very cold.

The Wasps had a very good result at the Arena on Sunday against Toulon, and it said in the Telegraph that security would be very tight, but as far as I know everything was fine.

Look after yourselves everyone and stay warm

    Much love

    Evening everyone,

Have had a lovely day with my darling Mum the weather was decent if cold and Mum managed to get all but one of the pressies that she wanted in Cambridge so she feels much happier as was fretting a bit. The C word decorations in the main shopping arcade were lovely but have to say did feel little worried on a couple of occasions, just looked round at the crowds and wondered what if......daft I know but kept looking out for where the fire exits etc were.
Anyways all was fine and we treated ourselves to lunch out at the JL Brassiere which was very nice. Got home about 3ish, did quick change and went to yard to see my boy, hour standing in the cold, bracing :rotfl:

Candlelight. - your DGD's room sounds lovely and what an enterprising young lady to do it herself.

SM - sorry to hear about your dear friends husband, fingers crossed he settles into his new environment quickly.

Hoglet - I hate thunderstorms so all those strikes sound very scary :(

Well all cosy here with loads of candles lit, take care everyone xx
  • Lainey - I think more people will be aware of their surroundings now. In a previous job I was responsible for evacuating a large building in the event of an emergency and to this day I tend to look for exits when I'm somewhere unfamiliar. Hubby and I spend quite a bit of time in Midwest US and I can also spot the tornado route and shelter signs a mile off. I hope none of us here ever need them but best to be prepared:o

  • Evening all, just back home having been to see the latest Bond offering, bit boring really, almost Bond by formula and very predictable nothing that we hadn't seen in a previous Bond film but we had supper afterwards at Waggamammas which was delicious and it was nice to go out together so I can't complain. Dentist for me tomorrow for a check up, not something I enjoy but necessary maintenance. We went to Sainsbu*ys this morning and I got our Christmas gammon as it's on offer at the moment for £3 a kilo so I got a lovely lean joint 2.3kg for £6.93p which is in the freezer, bargainous. Night, Lyn xxx.

    Good evening all,

Well, today was supposed to be a quiet day after the last few busy ones but what do they say about best laid plans....don't seem to have stopped until now, just enjoying a well deserved cup of tea.
Never mind, have achieved a lot, the whole house has been done through, beds and towels changed, have spent time with Bill and managed to do an hour of writing. Our tea is all prepped, individual cottage pies, all made with LO meat and veg from Sunday lunch, just waiting for DOH to finish some work and we will take the girls out for their evening constitutional. Just went out to the recycling bins and there is the most beautiful full moon rising in the sky. It's cold and clear out so will be nice to walk in but I always struggle to sleep when the moon is full.
Hope everyone is well and enjoying their week xx
  • Evening again! Lovely day today and I've had a bit of a sort out in various cupboards and drawers, moved some furniture around in the lounge, walked Cookie and we've pruned the big old apple tree on the front lawn and some of the bushes in the border got a good haircut too, much tidier now. Just had a lovely long Skype with Ruthie and Zebra, they went skating with a friend today and Zebra and his little friend Angus sat on a big yellow banana and Mummy skated them round on the ice, apparently this made Zebra so hungry that he ate most of Mummys lunch as well as his own!!! He's just been showing Oma how his bunny goes hop, hop, hop and it's lovely as it's the bunny that FTM sent him for Easter and he adores it, a white fluffy cuddly one, goes most places with him, she'd be so pleased. I miss her posting, I read along on her blog but I miss her here don't you? Hope your collective day has been a good one, nice salmon steaks for supper tonight and we've got the log fire lit as it's getting a bit nippy outside. I'm not leaving the house tomorrow except to walk that Cookie, Black Friday? I think NOT!!! Lyn xxx.
